The Irish media have a lot to answer for when it comes to our failure to take action on both transport and housing, as they continue to publish absolute rubbish like this.

More nonsensical anti-cycling rhetoric from The Irish Times.

This nonsense tries to pit people cycling up against people trying to buy a home.

This kind of framing is nothing more than a distraction tactic, pitting ordinary people against each other instead of addressing the real issues.

You could argue that with the push to lift the Dublin airport passenger cap and the fight to keep the nitrates derogation (to name a few examples), that they don't even prefer status quo, but that they want to make it worse.

The citizens' assemblies on climate action and biodiversity loss gave government overwhelming undivided feedback from the public on what kinds of action they would like taken on both emergencies. They understood the benefits of taking action.

Our political leadership prefer the status quo...

These aren’t offhand remarks. They’re a pattern.

They minimise. Mock. Downplay. Delay. Ignore.

The climate crisis is here. The question is: will our leaders wake up before it’s too late.

As I attend the Planetary Health Alliance Annual Meeting, the message could not be clearer: we need urgent, brave, bold action NOW.

For a government minister to say this is downright negligent.

This is up there with Leo Varadkar's statement about how climate change could be beneficial for Ireland as one of the most dangerous, illiterate, and ignorant comments from an Irish politician on climate change.

They're playing Russian roulette with our future.
Minister says climate costs warning is ‘back of envelope stuff’
Darragh O’Brien says he does not believe Ireland will face fines of up to €26 billion

If you wonder why we are failing to reduce our transport emissions and why we have a dysfunctional car-centric transport system. This is why. This is who are invited to aa Oireachtas committee to discuss transport and climate targets...

The mind boggles.

The #Budget2026 fails to set Ireland on a new course.

It doesn’t shift focus from endless economic growth to one where the health of people and planet comes first. It fails to move us toward a fairer, healthier future for all.

It’s business as usual with a few ‘green tweaks’.

The 2026 Budget must be the one that turns the tide on nature and climate action in Ireland.

Health, climate and nature are inseparable. The Budget 2026 must reflect that.

As is, with his continued push to not only lift the Dublin Airport passenger cap but also to significantly increase numbers, Minister O'Brien seems more like a minister for worsening climate change than one responsible for climate action and a sustainable transport system.

Brilliant letter below!

This is the level of ambition we need to see in Ireland!

According to the City of Paris, in the last 10 years 150K trees have been planted & 45ha of parks created in the already hot city, all intended to not only improve quality-of-life today, but also help the city adapt to & manage summer heatwaves of 50℃ (122F) by 2050.

Just the start.

Common sense.

Yes we definitely need to have a serious discussion around car parking subsidies in the HSE.

An important perspective from @ciarancannon.bsky.social!

The contrast between active transport and car infrastructure becomes even starker once you factor in the broader financial and health costs of cars, whether it's inactivity, air pollution, or noise pollution (to name but a few negatives...).
Opinion: Those outraged by a €100k bike shed should look at the annual cost of renting out car park spaces
We have completely normalised investment in congestion, pollution and the continuation of car-first planning, writes Ciarán Cannon.

One of our members caught the soon-to-be-cut Paris–Berlin sleeper train...

Sad to see the service go, but very on brand to be reading @thinkorswim.bsky.social's fabulous new book, The Lie of the Land, along the way.

Available in any good bookstore as John would say!

We welcome a discussion about the costs of different transport modes, but that conversation must also address the enormous financial and health impacts of our reliance on cars.

And just to be clear, the NMH is in urgent need of a new bike shed!
How much is okay for the State to spend on a bike shed?
The cost of bike sheds came up again in the Dáil yesterday – this time over a €100,000 tender for one at the National Maternity Hospital.
