Several months ago, actors made it clear that they were withholding work from Genshin Impact because of a lack of basic AI protections

Hoyo fans told them it would/could never be an issue

Last night, Hoyo posted several official videos promoting Genshin's new mode

Here's what the VO sounds like.

From what I remember the voice actors withholding their work from hoyoverse was because of the SAG-AFTRA strike.

But the VAs didn’t actually work for SAG-AFTRA, so a lot of people saw it as more performative than anything else.

That or I’m thinking of something else

in the 1990s if you were a freak you had to carefully reveal it over the course of many instances of gradual line stepping and feeling out around acquaintances and contacts and if you got it wrong you were indelibly That Guy and had to find a new rec center to play ball at or whatever

Anyway here's Mihoyo promoting AI assisted game production including:

"Efficiency in Image and Material Generation
With very few materials, they can generate character model sheets + 3D models, allowing for the testing of multiple designs and their artistic outcomes."

Beyond disappointed to learn that Arc Raiders, like The Finals before it, uses AI voice acting.

So many iconic game voice work is little vendor greetings, and to farm that out to a machine is a hollow admission of a lack of care.

I know a thousand actors who would have done better for buttons.
