The world may be hot garbage but my dahlias are tremendous.
Gorgeous cut dahlias in a white vase. My hand holding a bunch of beautiful dahlias

A perennial favourite.

I reckon the bookshop was Galloway & Porter on Sidney Street in Cambridge. Showing my age there.
Poem by Clive James, published in te FT Weekend Magazine:

The book of my enemy has been remaindered
And I am pleased.
In vast quantities it has been remaindered.
Like a van-load of counterfeit that had been seized
And sits in piles in a police warehouse,
My enemy’s much-prized effort sits in piles
In the kind of bookshop where remaindering occurs.

Either universities are private businesses that get to set their own priorities or they’re public goods that are obligated to serve everyone. You can’t have it both ways.

Diane Keaton in her Manhattan apartment with Buster, an Abyssinian, photographed by Jill Krementz in 1977
black & white photograph of young Diane Keaton smiling and standing next to a white refrigerator in a barren-looking kitchen. her cat Buster is crouched on top of the fridge playing with/swatting her hair in the upper right hand corner. she's wearing a long skinny white scarf with a dot-grid pattern, a high-neck white blouse with an ascot/kerchief around the neck, and a black blazer/skirt or blazer dress over what looks like a vest

The state library system of Hawaii has banned "banned" books displays, enforcing the phrase "freedom to read." Of course, we like that phrase too, but used without context it obscures the problem. You can't win a fight by pretending there isn't a fight
Hawaii library system bans displays that refer to 'Banned Books Week,' rebrands to 'Freedom to Read'
Last week Lani Kawahara, who oversees the young adult section at Kauai’s largest library, set up her annual display to mark Banned Books Week, a national campaign that kicked off Sunday to spotlight…

Niche joke for a few of you: I recently moved from a basement apartment to one with windows and the difference in my cat tiktoks feels almost exactly like the difference between X-Files seasons 5 & 6

Sitting at the Media Desk and overheard a patron looking at new releases: "What is The Life of Chuck?? Who is this?!?!" and isn't that actually a pretty good description of the plot and themes of that movie??

I like this one. One cat goes one way and the other cat goes the other way.
Two cats sitting atop a kitchen island. The one looking left is a mostly white calico. The one looking right is a black and white milk cat
