A message to the ordinary people from our #Resistance issue —

“To the Woman Reading the Protest Flyer at the Grocery Store” by Candace Kronen

I see me (6 yrs ago, when I was well), in the store, with my kids being feral around me, pulling down a flyer …

We were going to get a kitten for our family Hanukkah gift this year but instead I think we are going to get two kittens.

Just want to say thanks to everyone out there filming ICE. Without all these videos, the tyrannical Trump administration could lie to us & we wouldn’t have the evidence to refute their claims or to even know we are being gaslit. These folks are risking their lives to do real service for democracy.

Did you step away from social media over the holidays? (Smart!) In case you missed it, the wonderful @davidjbauman.bsky.social had me on his excellent new poetry podcast, @inthreepoems.bsky.social, and I'd be honored if you checked it out!

The thing about working on this novel is that to finish it, I really do have to resist the urge to work on anything else this year, but I worry that if the draft of this novel is the only thing I write this year I may mentally end up in a place where I decide to just never write anything ever again.

Heads up, fellow mom-writers, and writers about mothers:
Before we officially announce our issue theme, we’re going to spoil it here: it’s an issue about moms!

Are any writers interested in being interviewed about being a mom, or having a mom, or any mom adjacent subject?

Reply here or shoot us a DM! We’re excited to talk with you!

Preorders help small presses and authors tremendously but that’s not why they’re important on a soul level. Preorders matter because they’re acts of faith. You trust the order will come through, the book will be good, which means something in this low-trust society we’re trapped in.

Putting this out there again because I really could use some advice/sense of what to expect…
My book comes out in February and I want to spend some of my year traveling around a bit and doing reading events but I don’t really know how to make that happen. Has anyone done a DIY book tour and can pass along advice for how they made it work?
