Hey! Here, have a pinned thread of my writer stuff.

First, my debut poetry collection came out in June. I'm proud of it. Readers have said it's good, so that's cool. You can get it all the usual places—my favorite is asking an indie bookstore to order it for you via Ingram.
My book when it was at Schuler Books in West Bloomfield and it was front facing on a shelf! How cool is that? The cover is green with yellow text and highlights. The publisher, Match Factory Editions, has a house cover style, so all their books have the same clamshell pattern (like a vintage matchbook!) but in different colors. You can see a bit of the books on either side. It was next to Best American Poetry and a biography of Nina Simone, who is probably one of the coolest human beings ever.

I mean, you made a good argument for it, so who am I to argue?

(Let's just agree to pretend that comma is after "is" like it's supposed to be, okay? Thanks.)

More media this week...it's my first review! I don't even know how to summarize and explain this, but my wife grew up in what is essentially America's first subdivision. They have a weekly sub newsletter. A neighborhood resident reviewed my book. This is very cool and a huge honor, for real.

At 6'3", I often get assigned bigs to guard, and every single joint in my body just shuddered at the very thought of trying to guard Bron without ending up in the hospital.

LeBron, you would be welcomed with open arms into our old man rec league outside Detroit anytime. We all got 3-4 permanent injuries and a gut, bud. Come on in, the ball is good, however painful and slow.

LeBron James is out at least 3-4 weeks with sciatica on his right side, and will miss opening night

The Lakers say he will be re-evaluated in 3-4 weeks, which means he likely is out until early to mid-November. At least.

LeBron had yet to play in the preseason. This will be the first time in his 23-year career he has missed a season opener.

Y'know, I sincerely doubt it'd be hard to convince him The Hague is where Nobels are awarded...

I totally sympathize with Meg's overall point here, but also hey lit agents, my manuscript does kinda balance fun and The Times (in the sense of lower/middle class financial crush, at least). ~62K words and basketball action... [waggles eyebrows]

Serious books bum us out, fun books feel like they're not addressing THE TIMES. Getting something that's both is impossible. Writers are cranking out novels to please their agents, and agents are sending them unedited, and no one is answering anyone's emails because we're really, really tired.

Being a raised-Lutheran Gen Xer means sometimes having to pause and think really hard to remember which has 95 or 99 between theses and luftballoons.

For me: friends and fun, and a book, and life itself.

Has anything great happened in your life because of social media?
mitchnobis.bsky.social
Like a lot of writers, I "earned" a "Twitter MFA" back on Old Twitter. Met lots of writers. Talk a lot of hoops. Generally, social media, like humans, is great, but when it's bad, it's society-wreckingly bad. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

"A novelty for the lazy" absolutely f&$@in nails it.
jessdkant.bsky.social
Energy requirements for AI mean that the only way for the bubble not to burst would require companies to multiply their carbon footprint to an unimaginable degree. Right now, while AI is barely functional and mostly a novelty for the lazy, it requires so much energy that data centers rival cities.
