Today is the day!!! Existential Politics is out in the world!

Read about why we’re doing climate policy wrong (too focused on measuring emissions) & what we should do instead (focus on $$ to constrain fossil asset owners & expand green asset owners). Just in time for #COP30.

Green Public transit is important, but currently, transport is about a quarter of Canadian emissions.

Carney *literally* choosing between the two great powers on EV tariffs. If ever there was a symbol of how decarbonization policy and geopolitics are colliding, this is it.

Itching to hear a conversation about how we could change our politics to actually make real progress on climate change?

Tune in tomorrow to CIUT 89.5 at 11am to catch my conversation with @greenprofgreen.bsky.social where we chat about her book Existential Politics

I learned so much!

Congratulating ourselves for having a smaller far-right party than EU nations LOL

impressively naive take on how Canada should "lead by example" in foreign policy by just...being better?

Awww, shucks. 😊

I’ve written extensively about ICSID and why countries need to cancel these investment protections. This suit is absolutely preposterous.

Tomorrow marks the official beginning of the EU’s CBAM and it’s already creating political backlash. Another example of how a relentless focus on tons poisons climate politics.

I think it’s a corker! And I would be happy to chat about it. 😁

Absolutely loved working with @npr.org's Short Wave podcast on this nail-biter episode about a group trying to tackle the biggest driver of global warming at this year's climate conference.

LOL. So true!

6/ And this isn’t just a today problem. Ownership of green assets will shape inequality trends for decades (if not centuries!).

We must see wealth disparity as a cause of climate change – and therefore use taxation as a key lever for addressing it. FIN

5/ Of course, the super rich don’t want to be taxed, but the #OECD corporate minimum tax is a step in the right direction. And these kinds of numbers can help generate political pressure for a meaningful UN #TaxTreaty

4/ Even the baseline scenario would meet (and greatly surpass) the climate finance goal agreed to at #COP29), which is $300B annually by 2035.

3/ Taxing wealthy individuals could help A LOT – in many ways. Reducing inequality helps democracies, raises $$ for gov’ts (especially in Global South) and could help finance green transition.

2/ The statistics are staggering, and the trends suggest this isn’t getting any better

New global inequality report confirms what climate justice scholars and advocates have been saying for years: inequality and climate are inextricably bound up together. Extreme wealth causes climate change, which is why I argue in my new book that tax policy is climate policy. THREAD
