Played an off-meta deck in a tournament banking on being very good into one of the top meta decks, then made top cut and paired into said deck three times to take the win! My read of the room was dead-on.

I'm invested and in Seattle, my local friends are going feral. It's a heck of a game!

The more I pay attention to games in this series, the more innings they go.

Yeah, it's reputation makes it seem like an absolute stinker, and it's really not! A few weak moments of character logic, but knowing the studio meddling that took place, it's stunning it's as good as it it.

This is honestly a pretty good movie! Again, sure, it's not as good as one of the best horror movies ever made, and it doesn't really offer much you can't get from the original, but it's still a solidly entertaining paranoid thriller. Shame about those effects, though.

Honestly, an hour in, if this movie's biggest sin ends up being "it's not as good as John Carpenter's The Thing," that's something you could say about a lot of movies.
jordanalsaqa.bsky.social
Mm, you get to those practical effects being replaced with CGI and it's immediately a bummer, though.

Am appreciating how stacked the cast is; Mary Elizabeth Winstead as a Ripley-esque lead makes all the sense in the world.

#Horrorween2025 Day 10: Checking out what most people deem one of the most needless prequels of all time. Let's see if I'm left out in the cold by The Thing (2011)!

Just realized I've given the same two names to characters in different pitches, which will hopefully be a problem if they both manage to get a pick up.

I finally figured out a story beat on a walk earlier and I was fist-pumping on the sidewalk. That's the good stuff, man.

People who think the idea of "give me ideas" is something genuinely creative people want have literally never experienced the absolute EUPHORIA of a brainstorming breakthrough, either solo or with a human collaborator. They don't understand what is happening when artists create, on a basic level.

That is definitely the reason I started taking them, haha. But they've been helpful when I'm stumped on something to just disconnect and think about it undistracted.

Long walks have been fruitful for my creative process lately.

The original is probably an overall better movie, but I enjoyed the goofiness of this one a lot, making it win out as my favorite in the series so far.

Thinking on it more, this is an idea only slightly more absurd than warrior chefs, and I somehow got a publisher to go in on a three-book deal for that, which now stands as proof I can take a silly idea and make it work.

Gassing myself up on a Wednesday night.

Last short is genuinely pretty great, but otherwise, about as hit-or-miss as VHS usually tends to be.
jordanalsaqa.bsky.social
Broke the general outline for this story and really, when you get past the absurd premise, I think it's got everything you'd want from high-action adventure book in the vein late-90s/early-00s Toonami.

It's a bummer feeling like most of my lived experience getting into comics would be practically useless as advice to new creators.
