blinken overrode state dept findings to falsify the Leahy report so that they could continue selling weapons to Israel. he lied to congress about it.

New: Bari Weiss booked Hillary Clinton, Mike Pompeo, and Antony Blinken for a roundtable on Gaza, her first major move at CBS.

Notably on a CBS call today in which the panel was floated, one producer also repeatedly emphasized the need to hear from Palestinians in Gaza (Weiss did not respond).

It’s been 11 days since the government shutdown started.

Republicans refuse to come to the table to negotiate about Americans’ health care.

“In China, the longest ultrahigh-voltage power line stretches
the equivalent of the distance from Idaho to New York City. That’s a single power line. China has 41 others. Each is capable of carrying more electricity than any utility transmission line in the United States.”

I'm talking like, very short term just to keep these people surviving as civil servants

It's time for Pritzker to explicitly and loudly announce the Democratic Shadow Cabinet, which he will fund in the short-term to absorb current fed gov purges, but will requisition blue states to contribute to. Based in Chicago. any angry GOPers may counter this move with federal civ service reform.

I get that this is a "where they should be" exercise. and I am not trying to push a popularism on you. but I think grading people on this is setting a trap for ourselves when there's not a coherent alternative out there that people are pushing for. it should not be how we rank people
jortscity.bsky.social
and while I think we should do it if we have power, we'd be making a big mistake in making it our central argument because we **just** went through the abolish/defund the police slogan discourse which utterly failed and this is literally the same thing. amnesty should be our argument
jortscity.bsky.social
on "End ICE" I'd adjust your baseline to be more about, are they calling out abuses? and are they explicitly affirming the humanity of immigrants? very very few people outside the internet are to the point of calling for that

the basic idea is like, if you go outside ever, you should be able to tap your phone to your friend's phone and a friend of a friend of a friend at least should be someone willing to be non-anon and verified

but while it takes effort, it does feel good even just to build a mini wiki of the things I think about, even if I only have a handful of URLs to throw on the page

personally it drives me crazy that it doesn't drive other people crazy that *nobody knows what they know*. in my pivot to wiki article I ask people to take 3 things they care about and analyze their ability to produce a complete set of resources on the subject. I can't even do that for myself
jortscity.bsky.social
if the question is "do I have to do this" when it comes to information or writing, the answer is yes. it doesn't have to be wordy or especially compelling. but we have to adopt a cultural mindset of this sort of record-keeping. write what you can with the intent for someone else to adapt it later
bartenderhemry.bsky.social
Like how can we have endless pieces about fucking dissertation plagiarism and not one about "the spokesperson for DHS tells specific, easily-disproven lies constantly to provide cover for serious crimes against the public" how is that not a big deal? Do I have to write this shit myself?!?!?
jortscity.bsky.social
I'm doing what I can to try to wake people up to the lack of even the simple behaviors, but it's hard. it's cultural. thank you guys for what you do

This is what I do with a lot of my time right now. It's so wild that the "simple" things—like keeping the chronology, pointing to specific events—are so hard right now. But they need doing.

The clear story in Immigration this week is the escalation of—and pushback against—the Trump administration’s militarized raids and warrantless stops in Democrat-run major cities. We’ve updated our timeline with a lot of events in this zone:

like if there's something we're not seeing I'd be happy to boost what you're talking about but my read of the situation is that these are federal agents who are pulling up in trucks with federal resources and the only actual way to block them from doing so is at the end of a barrel, god help us.

it's not what we need anyway

it's not necessarily civil war but it is certainly not something a single governor should engage in without a vast portion of Dems from all levels and all states explicitly ready to back him up on, at least rhetorically. and pritzker is well-connected, he knows who's loyal and who's not

in good faith I would like you to list a few of the items that you imagine to be possible here
