Years ago I had a French partner, and at a party of hers I met the (English) boyfriend of one of her French friends, who called me a simp (among other things) for learning French so I could communicate better with her. That was… eye-opening.

JK Rolwing deserves more shit for taking so much of the romance out of the cultural perception of wizards. Hearing the word "wizard" should conjure images of Saruman standing atop Orthanc bringing a storm on the Pass of Caradhras. Not boarding school children.
