Yesterday, I walked ~4 miles through #DC with my camera, starting with the Logan Circle #nokings protest (which then marched to the north side of the WH), then I walked down by the WH to the Mall Wanted to share some photos and thoughts. I'm on insta @/shape_color_motion; doing more politics there.

a key thing about vought — and all of these guys — is that they have a totally top down and hierarchical vision of the world. they believe that the cultural changes they hate can be turned off by destroying the federal government because they can’t imagine that they emerged bottom-up in society
thomaszimmer.bsky.social
What he’s railing against is a profound shift in culture, status… He’s obsessed with the idea that America is controlled by a leftist “ruling elite” - but “elite” isn’t defined socio-economically or by political power, it means something like: Getting to define “real America” and who gets to belong.

Jim Jordan has a long history of looking the other way while people he sees as allies abuse vulnerable people, including almost 50 known victims of a serial abuser just on the Ohio State wrestling team where Jordan coached.

BASH: Are you gonna look into the way ICE is conducting itself?

JIM JORDAN: We're going to look into the whole situation where you have these mayors--

BASH: So you'll only look into that side and not federal law enforcement?

JORDAN: Wuh wuh wuh we'll look into all this

Sunday reading:

I wrote about the aggrieved extremist who is currently firing thousands of federal workers and ravaging state capacity based on conspiratorial nonsense - and about mainstream media’s infuriating tendency to sanitize Russell Vought and the regime he serves.

This week’s piece:
We need to talk about Russell Vought – But Properly
Why certain mainstream outlets insist on sanitizing Vought as a devout “small government” conservative – and what actually animates his war against pluralistic democracy

The MAGA pro-Israel wing is antisemitic by way of conspiracy theories and Christian eschatology. The MAGA anti-Israel wing is antisemitic by way of conspiracy theories and neo-Nazism. It's like horseshoe theory, if you gave it a concussion by hitting it repeatedly with horseshoes.

One thing that I find kind of fascinating about both the NJ and VA governor debate is that in both cases, the Dem showed a basic ability to follow the rules and the GOP candidate didn't. Shows bad prep, in addition to incompetence and bad character.

After spending 43 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit, evidence hidden by the prosecution reversed his conviction. Rather than finally enjoying freedom, ICE abducted him for deportation

Depraved.

This is American exceptionalism, every bit as much as the Trumpist movement is. This perverse psychological need to make the United States the source of all the world's evil is the flip side of people who insist the US is the greatest country in history.

Post like this and I unfollow and mute. This is erasing centuries of European pogroms and other violence prior to WWII by making America the sin-eater for the entire Western world. I won't have it and I won't let it slide:

One Battle After Another is a good movie, but PTA’s habits for long shots (which make me miss California) make it probably 15 minutes longer than it needs to be.

Also, more Regina Hall.

Would be a good time to shut down Dreamforce. If I have friends who are still speaking there, this is a good reason to cancel.

Lots of attention on this Marc Benioff article, which is excellent and full of jaw-dropping quotes.

It reminds me of how he was when I did a story for NPR about him secretly buying hundreds of acres of land in rural Hawaii. Things got weird.

I put this on a thread but I wanna underline it. Diane Keaton basically penned her own Oscar, won Woody his first screenwriting award, and her hat/tie look (which was Keaton’s own doing) was almost as iconic as Travolta’s white suit. She wrote her own damn ticket. Legend. Cracked the screen.
edgeofsports.bsky.social
Her born name was Diane Hall. Her family called her Annie. And that performance cracks the damn screen. The most three dimensional character - let alone most three dimensional woman - in any Woody film. And that’s because she formed the character. Woody - for her line reads - was a stenographer.

Right. This is discussed in the article; the named officer is certified specifically for this, as a part of his job. Gross negligence.
joshstein.bsky.social
The city statement (which was added afterwards) says he wasn’t exhibiting any objectively serious symptoms (which is a lie) visible to a layman (which the trained officer isn’t, with his cert).

Two people asked Grok if a particular video is AI. One response says it is AI, another says it isn’t.

Please don’t waste your time asking AI chatbots if something is AI.

Yes, this video appears to be Al-generated. Visual artifacts, like the dog phasing through the fallen branch, and unnatural physics in the fall suggest it's synthetic, consistent with recent trends in fake CCTV clips.

No, the video seems to be real. It's a security camera clip that captures a genuine incident where a tree branch falls near a couple walking their dog.
It shows no obvious signs of Al generation, and there are verified reports of similar events. How lucky they were!

🧵 regarding the shutdown:

The Democrats aren’t being clear enough about this but we can be: this shutdown is about saving lives.

If we don’t reverse the Medicaid cuts (and the ACA subsidies on insurance bought through the exchanges) that Republicans made this year, people will die.

Diane Keaton, the Oscar-winning star of “Annie Hall,” “The Godfather” films and “Father of the Bride,” whose quirky, vibrant manner and depth made her one of the most singular actors of a generation, has died. She was 79.

Imagine using Meta’s AI in educational contexts or having it integrated into edtech products. When it’s overseen by MAGA representatives like this, imagine asking it what Antifa means, if there is a relationship is between race and IQ or what is causing climate change.

Is this gross? Yes.

But the opposition leader s in any country looking for support from the US know that the only way to get it now is with praise of Trump, because that’s how dictators work.

Totally plausible this is someone in the administration. Also possible that it’s a foreign or private actor who got info ahead of time from the leakiest and least disciplined administration in modern history.

I love how the big news on Trump’s tariff announcement is how moments before he made it a bunch of people made insanely profitable shorts on crypto, a thing that Bitcoin Bros are all astounded to see happening in a completely unregulated market of a fake currency primarily used by criminals.
BREAKING: Look at this.

A new crypto account was opened yesterday morning.

30 minutes BEFORE Trump's announcement of 100% tariffs on China, it added a huge multi-million dollar levered Bitcoin short position, per YF.

The market dumped.

The trader made a profit of $192 million in two hours.

Unusual. JUST IN: An anonymous trader opened massive crypto short positions just 30 minutes before Trump’s tariff announcements yesterday.

They made an estimated $192M in profits.
Someone knew the market would crash….

A Random brand new fresh wallet opened a massive $BTC short just 30 minutes before Trump’s tariff announcement and this trader made $88,000,000 profits. Donald Trump needs to go to jail. He is thief, he is literally robbing people internationally.

He announced 100% Tarrifs on China and sends the US stock market into a death spiral.

At the same time someone put over 1 Billion dollars into crypto with orders for 100 million being placed on Ethereum and Bitcoin and other crypto currencies across the board whilst markets got wiped after what he said. Billions, and I mean fucking billions got wiped out, whilst Bitcoin had it a biggest dip ever in a single candle losing 20k per Bitcoin, Whilst alt coins lost over 60-70% of value, everyone with leverage on the market with even 2 x leverage got murdered and robbed.

This was co ordinated, this was market manipulation with one anonymous wallet making over 200 million dollars in one day with trades showing that they knew Trump was going to announce this and crash the market.

Thats still thirteen million and more people who think Trump's and RFK Jr's claims that Tylenol causes autism are definitely true.
ericmgarcia.bsky.social
Some good news: Most people don't trust Trump and RFK Jr.'s claims about autism.
Just four percent of respondents told a KFF poll they believed the claim was definitely true, while 30 percent said it was probably false and 35 percent said it was definitely false
