Howdy bluskies, new and older! I'm Joshua/Chase (either is fine), a scientist by day and a TTRPG hobbyist by dinner!

The one thing you should know about me is:

Out of the bottomless Múr they come, crawling and scuttling on thrice-kneed legs. When giants roamed the land and everything was bigger they were little more than lice, but the giants have gone and all but the beetles have shrunk.

Their carapaces are thick as castle walls, thick veins of amber in the black still pulsing with slow, cold giant blood. They drag themselves up from the deep places, mandibles clacking, searching for the warmth of the giants. Finding only men, they settle for crushing us instead.

They nest in the ruins of giant-works - old bridges, fallen towers, the hollow skulls of colossi. The sound of their approach is that of an avalanche learning to walk.

HP 24 Armor -d8 (chitinous shell) Morale -
Mandibles d10
Defense DR 8 (slow and ponderous)

Giant Blood: When the beetle takes 6+ damage in a single blow, ichor sprays from their husk. Test Agility DR 12 or be coated in the caustic fluid (d4 damage per round until scraped off).

Any attempt to move a dead beetle requires a dozen strong men or a team of oxen. Their shells can be carved into shields or sold for 600s to armourers.

Folks, why is it so hard to take off a flannel in a car seat versus free standing?

I had the seat reclined and rolled back and it still felt damn near like a straight jacket!

Anyway, I'm fine now.

I bought Andrew Joseph White's YOU WEREN'T MEANT TO BE HUMAN + Saskia Nislow's ROOT ROT at White Oak Books, both exemplary Halloween (or any day) selections. I'm reading both, one in the morning, one in the evening, and they're so far really great. Love White's style, which has an evocative clarity.

Andrew Joseph White's You Weren't Meant to Be Human has large type for both title and name with worms threaded through the white title treatment (against a black background. The cover mentions White is a NYT bestseller at the top.

Saskia Nislow's Root Rot has a black backdrop for various red fungal illos circling a diagram of a nervous system human body with title at top and author name at bottom.

Respondents said anti-trans policies have complicated their sense of home in Texas and pushed them to consider leaving the state.

Hen and Frog.

Ink and gouache on Fabriano Medioevalis, 95 × 64 mm.
