I feel like it's after Rand being trapped in the horrible box but I honestly can't remember and that's actually really fun. I have very strong memories of fragments of the books but the rest is like reading them for the first time again.

Anyway, book 4 is easily the best one so far. I can't remember anything about The Fires Of Heaven, so I guess we'll see what's waiting for me in the next one when I decide to read it.

One of my favourite moments is the cleaning of Saidin. I was *convinced* that it happens in The Shadow Rising, which I've just finished.

Spoiler alert: it doesn't.

Some of the moments that stand the clearest in my memory - the Green Man, Egwene with the Seanchan, Mat with the Eelfinn - take up barely any space in the books despite being hugely important. And it's also interesting how much connective tissue gets lost, and how the books all blur into one.

It's 11 years since I last read the Wheel Of Time, which was close to a decade after I first read them (or most of them - Knife Of Dreams had just come out when I first picked them up) and I find the way I remember them really interesting.

Yeah it's rubbish. Especially when the only info Royal Mail tend to give you on tracking is "It got posted > 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ > It's been delivered", it doesn't seem worth it to me at all

Out of the bottomless Múr they come, crawling and scuttling on thrice-kneed legs. When giants roamed the land and everything was bigger they were little more than lice, but the giants have gone and all but the beetles have shrunk.

Their carapaces are thick as castle walls, thick veins of amber in the black still pulsing with slow, cold giant blood. They drag themselves up from the deep places, mandibles clacking, searching for the warmth of the giants. Finding only men, they settle for crushing us instead.

They nest in the ruins of giant-works - old bridges, fallen towers, the hollow skulls of colossi. The sound of their approach is that of an avalanche learning to walk.

Defense DR 8 (slow and ponderous)

Giant Blood: When the beetle takes 6+ damage in a single blow, ichor sprays from their husk. Test Agility DR 12 or be coated in the caustic fluid (d4 damage per round until scraped off).

Any attempt to move a dead beetle requires a dozen strong men or a team of oxen. Their shells can be carved into shields or sold for 600s to armourers.
