After 12+ years of labor, "The Omnivore's Deception" is out today. I chronicle the rise of the meat industry, show its catastrophic ecological effects, demolish the myth of the "enlightened" omnivore, show why animals are worthy of our respect, and advocate the abolition of the animal food economy.

I concur with Chris Hedges.

"It is a sadistic game. A merry-go-round of death. This ceasefire, like those of the past, is a commercial break....Once Israeli hostages are released, the genocide will continue."

I don’t know who needs to hear this but the CDC is being eviscerated right now. America is not going to have any kind of outbreak response capacity after tonight. Americans’ health data is no longer secure. Say goodbye to federal public health in any capacity. It’s a disaster. We won’t recover.

Yesterday they were shooting priests in the head with rubber bullets. Today they're arresting journalists. If you have anyone in your life who doesn't regularly follow the news and doesn't understand how bad things are and how bad they're about to get, you need to tell them right now. Time is short.

Note that the ceasefire deal (not a genuine truce or peace) will not allow adequate food into Gaza, only a paltry amount. Hundreds of thousands of starved people will still face malnutrition.

Oddly, this article did not mention artificial intelligence at all--although one suspects that Harvard students must be using it to do their assignments.

Bray is a historian at Rutgers who received death threats after landing on Turning Points USA's Professor Watchlist. As a result, he announced he was moving to Europe. And then this happened.

This kind of harassment and abuse of scholars is Charlie Kirk's legacy and it's only getting worse.

“Someone” cancelled my family’s flight out of the country at the last second.

We got our boarding passes. We checked our bags. Went through security. Then at our gate our reservation ‘disappeared.’

My prediction: after the hostage/prisoner exchange, Israel will take a brief tactical pause before resuming its genocide. Once the hostages have been freed, Netanyahu will feel he has an even freer hand in Gaza (at least domestically).

Essential reading--the best article I've read this year on animal exploitation.

It used to be Che who was iconic in Latin America. Now it's becoming Charlie Kirk.

Good reporting on the South Shore raid from South Side weekly here.

Confirms one thing I was told but didn't put in my own piece because I didn't have a second source and it seemed too insane: border agents segregated arrested residents by race

I am so worried about this. These ICE agents are armed with weapons, a crap ton of anger, a boatload of hate, and the full blessing of an exquisitely violent administration. We have everything to lose.

History tells us that once fascism is properly the government then the only way it fails is because it has overreached and embarked on war with several countries (eg Italy, Germany).

Or it carries on for more than two decades until it runs out of steam (eg Spain, Chile).

Things are bleak.

It seems clear—I think to everyone, now—that a false and illegal invocation of the Insurrection Act is coming before the end of the year. Media outlets should be telling us how they will prepare for this potential Treason. State governments should be telling us. Activists should be developing plans.

NEW: I spoke to clergy and faith leaders who've joined protests at the Chicago-area ICE facility.

Three say they've been shot with pepper balls, sometimes while praying.

All say ICE is also violating their religious freedom, and one is arguing it in court. religionnews.com/2025/10/07/i...
