I teach a history of antifascism course @ruhistorydept.bsky.social and figured I'd start an ongoing thread this semester to share some insights from course readings and recommend some great works on antifascism.

So important ⬇️
A reminder to the news media: “conflicting accounts” is what you say BEFORE the incontrovertible video evidence appears. After that, your job is to ask why one side is lying, not to repeat the lie and pretend no one knows the truth.

Alex from our time working together, while he was in nursing school. Later, he moved to ICU, working as a nurse to support critically ill Veterans. He had such a great attitude. We’d chat between patients about trying to get in a mountain bike ride together. Will never happen now

Yes.
It’s time.

I want the see Steve Kerr’s Warriors and Minneapolis’ Timberwolves agree that they simply cannot play this game tonight.

A strike in solidarity with the besieged city and its murdered and abducted residents.

At the end of the day, the Black Lives Matter era was about whether people should be killed in the street, and lots of people decided yeah and put those little blue flags on their cars. It spread to everyone because it stopped for no one.

- ¿Tú crees que es una exageración decir que EEUU ahora no es una democracia?
- Bueno, no estoy seguro de si fue una democracia antes.

Helpful and clear distillation of far right responses to Trump’s actions in Venezuela from @shaneburley.bsky.social
For my newsletter I broke down how these different areas of the right are responding to Trump’s assault on Venezuela. As always, there are fractures, and justifications, but says a lot of what the post-Trump right will look like. maiseh-review.ghost.io/how-the-far-...
How the Far-Right is Reacting to Trump's Assault on Venezuela
The far-right remains split on Trump's actions, and it may reveal more about the conservative civil war.

ICE agents at a hotel in St. Paul woke up this morning to news that they’re getting kicked out of their hotel today at noon.

Brilliant.
People in Minnesota are now using their key fobs to trigger their car alarms from the safety of their homes when they see ICE walking around.

🚨WHOA. The El Paso Medical Examiner says it will rule the death of a 55-year-old Cuban man at ICE's "Camp East Montana" tent camp as a homicide.

He was allegedly choked to death by a guard during a "struggle" after he refused to enter a housing unit without his medications.

4b) And why did the transnational concept of ‘The Left’ emerge according to Fronczak?

Fascism.

In other words, the need to unite against fascism gave birth to an expansive notion of antifascism beyond Italy and to the very idea of ‘The Left’ itself.
