Beyond how nice it is to see protesters in Portland do such a good job of portraying the truth, I need you all to understand that underneath those costumes there are motivated, strong, determined individuals who love their community and are showing up for it. Collective action at its best.

raulpachecovega.bsky.social
Honestly, why teach proper public policy and public administration theories if the politicians will violate every single law, and will do whatever benefits them and not society?

(I’m being slightly facetious)

Breaking news: The Trump administration began laying off federal workers while the government is shuttered, fulfilling threats from President Trump to take advantage of the closure to shave off more parts of the federal workforce he dislikes.

The Trump administration and its allies have taken several steps to ensure that medical schools in the US dismantle all diversity, equity, and inclusion policies.

It is patients who will be the victims of this, write @gavinyamey.bsky.social and @michaeldgreen.com

I suppose you could *also* take my undergraduate thesis in chemical engineering as sort-of discussing coordination problems, but the ones coordinating were bacteria that were biodegrading contaminants in wastewater. And I really didn’t talk to them.

raulpachecovega.bsky.social
As someone who has spent his entire post-undergraduate life studying coordination problems I can certify that doing something in tandem with/alongside others is key to tackling wicked problems such as the emergence and consolidation of authoritarian regimes.

I’m so glad Dolly Parton is doing well and I would like to scold her sister for scaring the shit out of millions of her adoring fans including me but I assume she did it in good faith.

We barely dodged that one.

I was a graduate student when Linda Solomon Wood launched The Vancouver Observer and now I see all her hard work has launched an entire national network of journalism with The National Observer. Good for her (disclosure: I consider Linda a good friend).

My website is back online. Still has some coding errors that I need to fix but the blog posts are readable and usable.

Please be patient until I can get it back 100% (you still can read the posts but you’ll see some weird errors at the top)

Almost a decade ago I wrote about doing ethnography of vulnerable and marginalized communities and how painful it was at times. My dear friend @tressiemcphd.bsky.social told me then “I hope you never stop feeling. It’s the difference in the work.”

And it really is.

Pam Bondi admits she spoke to Apple to "get the ICEBlock app taken down." Sounds an awful lot like coercion to suppress disfavored speech to me. A clear violation of the 1st Amendment.

Bondi claims that the ICEBlock app was "criminal in that people were posting where ICE officers lived"

One thing I think is undervalued in all these social networking sites is sharing half baked thoughts.

For me, these sites are sounding boards. Did I calculate my sample size right? Should I use Theory X? Which cases might be interesting?

There’s a lot of people willing to provide feedback.

There is a class component to federal agents' crackdowns. They're abducting day laborers, street vendors, domestic workers, textile workers en masse. They're not going after big employers/people in Trump's corporate milieu.
