Our new polling shows how cost of living is the key issue shaping public opinion and politics. As the Govt makes cost of living a top priority, the highest number of Brits, since we started tracking say that they don’t think the cost of living crisis will ever end.

This is a special year for us as we celebrate 575 years of the University of Glasgow! We look forward to celebrating with our UofG community ❤️🎂

Anything by Emily Maguire - all different but the last two, Rapture & Love Objects are excellent. Charlotte Wood’s The Natural Way of Things is haunting. I also really enjoyed the other 2 Charlotte McGonaghy books

The Safekeep was my favourite book this year - but I did not read anywhere near 57 books. Impressed! (I also loved Caledonian Road and Wild Dark Shore)

Funny that most news media aren’t reporting much about Brigitte Bardot’s legacy of far right activism 🤷🏻‍♀️
Bardot leaves controversial legacy of activism for France’s far right
French cinema legend Brigitte Bardot, whose death at 91 was announced on Sunday, was well known for her status as a 1960s sex symbol. In later decades, Bardot became a militant animal rights activist…

I couldn’t get past a few episodes, despite wonderful Brendan Gleeson. I kinda feel like my tolerance for onscreen violence and menace has decreased substantially the last few years!

My year of gigs with my daughter

Teenage girls, who have long been pop’s biggest consumers, can teach us so much about music. After dozens of concerts with my 15-year-old, I am in awe of them, writes Miranda Sawyer

Through the course of this investigation, more than a dozen major Australian charities refused to disclose which data tools they use to profile givers. Crikey has named them.

Closing out my year with a journal editor shocker 🧵

Checking new manuscripts today I reviewed a paper attributing 2 papers to me I did not write. A daft thing for an author to do of course. But intrigued I web searched up one of the titles and that's when it got real weird...

I’m in Berlin & have always been interested in the Stolpersteine or stumbling stones commemorating Jewish holocaust victims
I spotted these today near Humboldt Uni - academics hounded out of their jobs before they either fled or were sent to camps
We need to learn from this history, not repeat it

The "smartphones/social media" discourse suffers from some amazing historical amnesia. There was no 2008 financial crisis and no global pandemic starting in 2020, it's all SCREENS SCREENS SCREENS. Major world events? Just the backdrop against which SCREENS happened.
This chart shows complete failure.

Yes. Fully agree ❤️

Extra hard watching this unfold when you are so far from home - such unimaginable violence in crowded, beautiful Bondi

Horrific, extremist violence that no one deserves
