A very short 🧵

“... and other threats” in this context used to mean something VERY different just a few months ago
The EU is rapidly increasing its military capabilities. Brussels says its new defence measures will help it face Russia and other threats by 2030.

Is Europe ready for war and what is Brussels doing to prepare?👇

See if you can spot in the new UKIP party logo the slight, nuanced, extremely veiled visual nods to historical political symbols en vogue circa 1940
Ukip have submitted a new logo and slogan to the Electoral Commission, swapping the £ pound sterling symbol for a cross, that looks very much like it is modelled on the Iron Cross used by Prussia & Germany 1871-1918 and Hitler's Nazi regime from 1933-45

I had the opportunity to screen an early cut of #HomegrownFilm a few years ago and trust me, everyone needs to see it.

It has struggled to find a North American distributor but is now accessible via Video on Demand until Feb. 16. You should watch it while you can!

Don’t get me started on democracy vs. republic
I'm wondering now about similar muddlings that infuriate specialists/aficionados.

I know that typographers get grumpy over the merging of "typeface" and "font."

I also get irked at references to hardcover jackets as covers and to all stages of a book prior to publication as "manuscript."
the please stop referring to cast recordings as soundtracks challenge

Agree! She has this capacity of describing scenes in a way that they vibrate out of the page. Same for some of the protest scenes further down the book

#2
Universality (Natasha Brown, 2025)

A brutal act, a journalist craving success (and provocation) and a smorgasbord of cringe characters illuminate this masterful novel. Like her previous ASSEMBLY, a powerful story of privilege, identity, and what it means to be a Briton. Brilliant

The US version is brutal

Ouch, still quite a few places to add

Getting home from school, turning on MTV, and hoping that the cool song I am waiting for comes up. The fresh VHS is in the tape recorder, in case it does. I am ready.

🖋️ Cartoons

Cherian George (@cherian.bsky.social)
