my biggest beef with bluesky is that I get way more updates on what Curtis Yarvin or Peter Thiel than anything on the African continent

What the Twitter takeover did so effectively was fracture the way we get our news. If, for example, I want to get in-depth updates on Sudan I still check in with Twitter as that's where a lot of the biggest accounts are. There's no one-stop shop anymore.

What I learned from Miss Major was persistence and also keeping a sense of humor. I was lucky to see her work in various organizing meetings over the years. She was a model of how to be a good elder. Truly grateful for everything she did to make the world better. Time for the rest of us to continue.

This week in 1988: 1,000+ ACT UP demonstrators shut down the FDA headquarters, demanding (and eventually winning) action on developing HIV/AIDS treatments. ACT UP's militant and creative actions always included powerful visual artwork, and paved the way for movements in the decades to come.
A photograph from the 1988 ACT UP demonstration outside the FDA. Many people are participating in a die-in on the front steps, holding mock tombstones with messages like "RIP - killed by the FDA" and "Dead from lack of drugs." A line of police officers (some with classic 80s mustaches) wearing riot helmets stands between them and the building; one cop wearing white gloves is walking through the demonstrators. Affixed to the 2nd story windows of the building is a series of posters and a large blank banner reading Silence = Death.

A 3-4 day work week. Guaranteed income for all. Free healthcare. Free school at all levels. And a radical transformation of our relationship to earth ecologies. All what we could do with our collective resources if both parties didn’t use our collective wealth to bomb the world.

Bihhh these septa regional train delays and cancellations are really in the way. I guess this is the future of our hacked away collective under the transition from neoliberalism to neofascism. Everything costs more and more. Nothing works. And when you say it doesn’t work you’re a terrorist.

“What avail the triumphs of art, science, and commerce, if the majority of mankind are ground to powder to make those triumphs possible.”— T. Thomas Fortune, 1884

3-4 day work week. Universal guaranteed income. Rent and mortgage freeze. Free education at all levels. Single payer healthcare… What we could envision if our national budget wasn’t consumed by bombing people around the world and aid to the rich.

“I am become a Palestinian
against the relentless laughter of evil”— June Jordan, 1982

I was placed there explicitly for speaking up against Israel’s (with US blessing) genocide against Palestinians. I was marked as a racial extremist by representatives of the most extreme reactionary forces in the country for saying unequivocally stop killing children and people generally.

I am on that hateful klansmens watchlist. I didn’t receive anywhere close the kind of harassment my colleagues have faced but let’s be serious seeing yourself plastered by these extremists as a threat that they are armed against, makes you shudder no matter your strength or resolve.

They pulling out full kl*n processional and funerary rights from the highest offices. Pick up your lil martial arts or whatever you might need in this likely onslaught. It’s gonna be a wild ass ride.

We are facing fascism, mass deportation, genocides, and a pending economic meltdown. This year has already been a decade. We must become ungovernable.

Excited for proofs for the intro to a special cluster of Interdisciplinary Studies in Literature and Environment (ISLE) on Black Literary Ecologies. Grateful to the wonderful collaborators for this Dana Cypress and Justin Hosbey. Stay tuned.
