When talking to a person that just got laid off when no one is hiring, that just got an eviction notice for failure to pay rent and can't afford anywhere else to live in their city, and that can't afford insulin... you can't point to charts of GDP and the S&P, and tell them that the economy is good.

There is a whole underworld of exploited workers who make up the foundation of digital tech. We talk about content moderators, but content farms are also very exploitative industries where moderately educated people with reasonable English skills in the global majority are used to push content.

as someone who used to do this: I'd use a shitty cheap version that gave the best sound when I held it. I tried pinning them to me and all the rubbing made it useless
why have reporters, politicians, influencers, etc. all of a sudden seem to have started holding lapel mics to talk into them? it’s a lapel mic, it’s specifically designed to go on your shirt or lapel, you look ridiculous holding it, stop it.

Here is a report from the NJ Office of the Corrections Ombudsperson detailing a facility where faulty heating equipment meant that indoor temperatures dropped as low as 55 degrees in the spring (For context: "Restorative Housing Unit" is the Orwellian term NJDOC uses for solitary confinement)
