In terms of immersive techniques, the show was fairly simple, even basic. However, taken on its own merits, it was one of the strongest immersive shows I've ever seen, with an unmatched artistic confidence in its subject matter.

In the spatial design, there was something akin to the experience of going to an art museum and wandering around looking at different pieces, which might be explained by Abramovic's background in the art world. It was distinctly different than immersive shows with a theatre background.

Most of the show was in one large hall, and you could wander from stage to stage to see what was happening. From a single vantage point, you might be able to see up to seven of the individual performances that were interlacing thorough the show. Or you could focus on just one.

Abramovic herself was present, introducing the show. She was also present as one of the many characters inhabiting the world at a few times, as if this was the world she ordinarily lived in. As a presence, she made herself into one of the many, someone you might see sitting in a cafe.

Performers engaging in slow, repetitive motions for hours on end created an eerie alternate reality where time moved slower and the impulses of death and desire were exposed in all their beauty and terror.

Visually, the show was impeccable, striking and beautiful, with powerful images confident in their ability to last. Often you were left wondering at the stamina of the performers, asked to do things like hump the grass for four hours straight.

Despite it's slowness, the show had plenty of juice thanks to the subject matter. In perhaps the most striking performance, a group of women in traditional Balkan dress demonstrate the art of deterring enemy armies using the power of their private parts.

The show was described using the word "durational." In practice, that meant that it consisted of a series of slow-moving or almost static tableaux you could wander amongst for the duration of four hours.

I visited an excellent game store called FanBoy3 in Manchester and they had a display for Boardgamegeek top 10 games. But... Because many games on that top 10 are not available anymore, they only had Ark Nova and a few others. I bought the last Star Wars: Rebellion.

Most white-collar jobs will occasionally require you to write (competently, not just pure bullshit and page-filler) under time pressure, and this is one of the main skills you acquire at college! I was lucky because my bizarre English teacher and weekly AD&D games meant I learned it early.

Saw an impro show in London and it was fun to see the micro-interactions of performers who were not in a scene at the moment. Very recognizable from larp, like the moment when the performer re-positions themselves for the next scene after coming up with an idea.

Alleys are a genre fiction staple but not at all a standard urban feature. My hometown Helsinki barely has any. New York has just a few. But Manchester has been very rich in alleys!
