Slightly secretive Sydneysider. 🎥 🎶 🍳 🐕 I know a tiny amount about many things so I guess that makes me a scatty fox rather than a deep-thinking hedgehog.

I suppose I should be doing some actual work, really.

I’m a subscriber but there are some days I look at the headlines and just think “no, that’s all far too depressing, I’m going for a walk instead.” Fortunately they have a good quiz, and decent recipes.

Something odd happened to Peter Hartcher’s brain several years back. He’s completely unhinged these days, and I won’t click on anything written by him.

When this gets worse it will spread here. We’ll all be riding the stupid, all the way down.

Yeah that’s going to be unpleasant. Fingers crossed the wind drops a bit.

France’s new prime minister is…the very one who resigned on Monday, Sébastien Lecornu. It rounds off the most chaotic and absurdist week in French politics in modern times

You could never have explained to childhood me that we'd somehow make robots uncool and unappealing. Robots!

The Vatican is worth visiting if only for the chance to view the priceless antiques and artwork. It’s breathtaking but yeah, flogging off a couple of Michelangelo’s would probably be a good start for a Gaza rebuilding fund. Or other charitable good work of your choice.

Damn you. I had shoved enough pencils up my nose to make the pain of Silverlight go away. (I had a VP who LOOOOOOVED the idea of Silverlight. Of course, this was the same guy who looked at a new intranet project that would be accessed by maybe 15 people and declared “this needs to go viral.”)

This is the correct response. 🙄

I am moderately surprised they eventually realised the suicidal nature of their enshittification efforts. This level of awareness is not what we’ve come to expect from tech vendors.

🙄 I feel like if you’re holding Queensland up as an example of best compliance with the law you’ve already failed.

I think he’s getting a bit ahead of his skis. Surely someone will read him the Privacy Act at some point?

I know AI fails are getting a bit over-mentioned but that’s a truly excellent example.

How many trillions of dollars have been invested into this technology so far?
Google search for "austria hungary in space"

Google excitedly tells you about the 1889 orbital flight, and that by 1908 there was a Mars research output with 30 people.

I recall going to Southern Cross Station in Melbourne a couple of years ago to see off a relative who was catching the aged XPT back to Sydney. There was a Japanese family waiting for the train as it slid into Platform 1. They seemed very alarmed at the age and general condition of the train.
