Today’s Google experience: asked it about tech specs for a specific make and model of 17” CRT monitor and it told me all about a different model of 19” CRT monitor.

The AI overview is so fucking useless, no, worse, it’s distracting and stealing my time.

So Visa and Mastercard won’t allow using their network for paying for legal weed or computer games with *gasp* nipples on Steam but they’re perfectly fine with you using it on X, the web app for generating revenge porn and naked children.

Make it make sense.

This is an great image to point out (pun intended) that any image you see of stars in space doesn’t actually show those stars but an image of the point source starlight with a specific mathematical curve, the “point-spread function”.

Stars are too far away to be directly resolved with telescopes.

A wild thing about sperm whaling is that car transmissions in the US used sperm whale oil until the 1970s 🐳

Literally the only new innovation in Microsoft 365 is that now whenever my computer isn’t connected to the Internet I get a big error banner whenever I try to use Word and I’m not sure that’s worth an extra $30 a year

Kodak DC120 Zoom (1997, ~1MP)

This camera is in bad state, the screen on it doesn't work at all and the battery compartment is badly corroded—the only way I can get an image out of it is with a DC power supply. Enjoy the chaos on my desk lol.

Funky colors!

Only about 15% of iPhone users have updated to iOS 26.

I know I've avoided doing it.

iOS 26 still struggles to gain traction with iPhone users
iOS 26 is turning out to be a dud — adoption among iPhone users trails way behind what's typical months after an Apple OS release. Here's why.

2026: we're posting about floppy disks for some reason
January 11, 2026 at 4:07 PM
Fun detail here, the hard shell 3 1/2" Sony diskettes on the left are called "Micro Floppy Disk" on the package, the soft shell 5 1/4" Verbatim diskettes are labeled as "Diskettes"
I have some rainbow 5 1/4" ones! So pretty.

Health experts: Your synthetic text "AI" overviews are misleading, for example see this about liver function tests.
Google: Okay, we'll block "AI" overviews on that query.

The product is fundamentally flawed and cannot be "fixed" by patching query by query.
