Every word of this thread is spot on. And the situation is worse if the job you had goes away, because the jobs market out there is fucking dire right now. And it's even worse if you've previously had an entrepreneurial life and your CV is a shitshow.

In related news, someone please hire me.
I'm not the only author I know who has a huge surfeit of ideas for books that we would love to write and send out into the world if only we had the time to write them.

The war will end when Russia stops fighting. Therefore, pressure has to be put on Russia, so that they stop believing that they will win. Why is that so hard to understand?

Capybara Cafe

My wife is a little crazy. She gets an idea into her head and it won’t let go. Which is how I found myself hanging with some capybaras this evening, feeding them kale from my hands. It was a hoot.

Called it: Trump is going to *give* China Taiwan (no, Taiwan is not his to give) in an attempt to reverse the damage of his stupid trade war.
“.. Japanese officials said the message was worrying: the president didn’t want friction over Taiwan to endanger a detente reached last month with Xi, which includes a promise to buy more agricultural products from American farmers ..”

Reporting from Boston papers makes it seem very plausible that Trump's Press Secretary had his paramilitary detain the mother of her nephew, because she was no longer romantically involved with her brother and he wanted her out of the picture.
“After Ferreira was detained, Dos Santos Rodrigues said Michael Leavitt Sr. and his father, Bob Leavitt, reached out to her.”

“‘They just kept saying, ‘Tell her to self-deport,’” she recalled. “Self-deport to where? Brazil is not her home.’” www.bostonglobe.com/2025/11/26/m...

Dude is setting a precedent for how he’ll be treated by the federal penitentiary system when he becomes a resident.
After Biden commuted the sentences of 37 men on federal death row last year, the Trump administration is retaliating by sending them to the supermax. Prisoners are locked in cells smaller than a parking space 22-24 hours a day.

One prisoner told me he fears he won't make it out alive.

My latest:
Death Row Prisoners Granted Clemency by Biden Brace for "Living Hell" Under Trump - Bolts
Trump officials are retaliating by imposing the harshest conditions in the entire federal prison system, including near total isolation.

Finding treasures.

I have a lot of our old family photos, but I didn’t have this one. My dad had a timer for his Polaroid 250, which he clearly used to get this photo of him, my mom, and me on the couch in our house on Newport Drive in Sterling Heights.

An amazing new Trump controversy, Part II of II:

- Saturday afternoon: Trump says he spoke to Bolsonaro the night before and planned to see him “in the very near future”

- Monday afternoon: The Trump White House isn’t sure whether Trump actually had the conversation he referenced two days earlier

Did the Republican president talk to Bolsonaro as the Brazilian plotted to escape? Trump said yes, but the White House isn’t so sure.

This is who we are now.

A nurse, who’s been in the US for 30 years with a legal work permit, with a citizen son & parents she takes care of, was detained at her routine ICE check in.

She couldn’t legally be sent back to Sierra Leone, so they sent her to Ghana who dragged her & then sent her to SL.
jfc. It was determined by a US judge that she could not be deported to Sierra Leone due to danger she would face in the country she fled. So they deported her to Ghana, a country she had never been to, and Ghana deported her to Sierra Leone.

This country is fucking sick. Deeply deeply fucking sick

Rabbiatu Kuyateh was detained this summer at her annual ICE check-in, her son said. She moved to the D.C. area 30 years ago as she fled civil war in Sierra Leone.

This sounds like the stuff my old employer Lucent Technologies did with phone switches that led its stock price to go from $84 a share to 50 cents, got the CEO fired, and led to the company being acquired by Alcatel.
Before today, I'd have said "sure NVIDIA ships out GPUs before they're paid, they seem to be getting paid on time, that's fine," but then I read that NVIDIA "recognizes revenue upon shipping a product and deeming collectability probable" and I can't stop thinking about what "probable" could mean?
