I drive around making deliveries of stuff to people around the country. I have a lot of time to let my mind wander. That's rarely a good thing.

The chairman of the Nobel Peace Prize confirms that Donald Trump does not meet the moral and ethical standards associated with the award, citing a lack of courage and integrity a trait that defines MAGA.

Buckeye was at the other side of the pond. There's never nothing going on 🙂
I'll let iNaturalist describe this butterfly: "The common buckeye is a medium-sized butterfly, typically brown, with a wingspan of \(1.5\) to \(2.75\) inches, known for its striking eyespots on its wings that can deter predators. Its upper forewings have two orange bars and a band with an ivory-bordered eyespot, while the hindwings have two large eyespots with an orange border. The underside is typically mottled brown."
It was resting on a weathered, wooden fence rail.

Good people need to start outing their ICE family members, neighbors, and community members.

They need to be made into pariahs in the places decent Americans gather.

And there was only one that I could see. Very strange.

Felt serendipitous to have found them today as I had only briefly entertained the idea of going to the preserve bc it was almost 40 miles from where I was at. Then I got a call to get some freight from Indy tomorrow and that brought me right past it on the way. Had to go at that point, right?
Three Wilson's snipe probing around in the shallow water of a pond at the preserve. They are plump and mostly brown with white streaks and a white belly and have a long black bill they use to probe around in the muck for invertebrates. Wider view showing all five snipe in the same frame. A fellow I met on his way out told me he thought he'd seen a snipe but he wasn't sure and that it had disappeared into to marsh grass. He showed me a photo he too of it from head on and I told him it looked snipey to me but it was hard to see the bill and white streaking and stuff.
I went down where he said he'd seen it and looked around for a while. I think I've seen them on probably less than ten occasions ever and they can be really hard to spot even when they're fairly close so I wasn't surprised not to see one.
So I walked over to the other side of the pond--which turned out to be further than I thought--and ended up doubling back from about half way. And it was on the return trip that they appeared on a mud flat where I was looking before. So, the timing worked out perfect. Serendipity. The pond where the snipe and everybody else I saw today were today. There's a red arrow pointing to the mud flat where the snipe were. It wasn't close but turned out to be just close enough for an acceptable level of sharpness. Other folks there were mute swans, greater and lesser yellowlegs, a belted kingfisher, Canada geese, gadwalls, wigeons, mallards, and several red-eared slider turtles. Very nice pond.
FWIW: I think those tallest trees behind and to the left of the arrow are about where I got to before deciding to turn around. There wasn't much back there today. Looked like great prairie habitat though. Just not much going on today.

Odd looking plant at Fernald Preserve. The Seek app says it's "white wild indigo." I cracked open one of the black, deer poo shaped pods and found little green seeds inside that looked like immature green peas.
Plant stem covered with peculiar, black, oblong shaped pods. Closeup of little green pea shaped seeds inside one of the pods. Description of the plant as identified by the Seek/iNaturalist app "white wild indigo." It says the plant is a member of the bean family and that it is a native plant.

Interesting that they moved right up on that gadwall(?) and it barely seemed to notice.

Also: if you work for ICE, even if you’re not one of the ones arresting citizens or tackling 15-year-olds or zip-tying kids together and segregating them by race, you’re part of the mechanism making it happen, and you should suffer long-term social and post-regime-change consequences.

Some weirdo on Twitter has been absolutely melting down for like 36 straight hours because I posted:

When this is over, do not forget what ICE did, and what ICE is. And do not make room for them in society. Make sure they know that they are, and will continue to be, reviled and beneath contempt.

It’s been such a warm Fall here, but apparently that’s changing tonight!
But for now, we still have a few of the fancy sparrows visiting while they rest up before continuing their journey.
One of my favourites is the Harris’s Sparrow and this one was having a good drink!

A Harris’s Sparrow standing in a small creek with its reflection. Its striped tones of dark brown and tan are lit by the morning sun and the creek is a dark black. There are a couple pink rocks by the creek also catching the sun

Well said, Sen. Sanders! I'm a 70 year-old disabled veteran and October 18th will be my sixth rally in Ohio. I've seen every age group in attendance at rallies and that's something Speaker Mike Johnson is purposely ignoring. I've chatted with vets and people and we all refuse to submit to Trump! 💙🇺🇸💙

What is this little thing? I thought it was maybe a leafhopper or a sharpshooter. It was really tiny.

So if Russ Vought and Bob Kennedy were deliberately trying on behalf of an enemy to sicken and kill Americans by destroying the public health structure - what would they be doing differently?

Is that a gadwall or a wigeon in the video? This one is a wigeon and was in the neighborhood too.
Overall grayish duck with reddish brown accents and dark smoky eye.

I've never seen northern shovelers shoveling in shallow water before. Gadwall doesn't seem worried about it.
