As of today, I am officially retired! I expect my life to change, well, not at all, at least for now (I was already not teaching because it was summer, I still have my research group, and my last grad student will still be at it for a while), but it’s the beginning of the end, anyway.

That’s a good thing to know for the future!

Tories are all upset because, after years of bumper stickers and flags, it was Katy Perry who achieved their dreams.

My husband and I, in our 70’s, can do daily activities on our electric-assisted bikes with baskets and panniers. I attribute our health and happiness to being carfree. We can borrow a car for when we need to go out of town, so we have the best of both worlds. If only everyone could be so lucky!

I recently read a book about Trudeau’s government, and got to wondering what had happened to Jody Wilson-Raybould. I looked her up and found she’d written this. It came available at the library for me this Thanksgiving weekend, which seemed like a happy accident. It’s VERY good.

We used to make a big Thanksgiving meal with a turkey for friends every year, but we stopped early in the pandemic. This is the first year we’ve done it since—this time with a small bird just for us. The house is starting to smell like turkey, and it feels homey and cozy. I’m excited!

Cyclists in the Netherlands literally don’t worry about collisions with cars at all. Instead they worry about other cyclists, especially on e-bikes, and people on various motor-powered devices who are permitted to use the cycling infrastructure.

The Netherlands is the only country I’ve cycled in where I’ve felt entirely comfortable and safe not wearing a helmet. (I’ve also cycled in the border regions of Belgium without a helmet simply because I didn’t have one with me—that was less comfortable.)

It sounds like it would be very frightening!

Literal inner-suburbs Halifax, not HRM being called Halifax. You’re already very close to being a 15-minute city!

If you’re a loser, then so am I! Terrible at that stuff

Oh no! I just went in there for the first time a couple of weeks ago.

My parents are also in the process of downsizing to an apartment that will be (slightly) larger than our house 😆

Go, go little tomatoes and peppers!

“After it freezes” meaning “once winter really sets in”, not “after the house freezes” 😆

We hang-dry our laundry in our house after it freezes!

Okay, I thought you meant you voted for Fillmore! Glad that wasn't the case, at least (for your own benefit)
