The government has executed more people in 2025 than any year in over a decade — and there are five more executions scheduled over the next week.

Just a handful of states are responsible for these executions, and they’re increasingly out of step with public opinion.

Inuit-led solutions aims to avoid the euthanizing of Marineland's 30 beluga whales.
Jason Etok, who grew up in Kangiqsualujjuaq, Nunavik, suggests the whales can be reintegrated into the wild areas such as Hudsons Bay, Ungava Bay or the St. Lawrence River.

NEW: L.A. Times journalists just voted to authorize the newsroom’s first open-ended strike.

Eighty-five percent of the @latguild.bsky.social voted to support the strike. Just over 200 workers — 98% of members — took part in the historic vote.

I'm at the scene where ICE abducted multiple people from Lincoln and Foster this morning.

A WGN producer was among the people taken, allegedly because she was among a group of bystanders who tried to intervene. ICE agents hit this car while making their getaway.

I’m listening to “The Color of Law” by Richard Rothstein as an audio book from the public library for the next @lwvsf.bsky.social book club meeting. We’re also discussing it as we go via slack. It is quite a contrast from the last book! I’m loving this one.

Are we at that phase already? The cancellation of the boarding pass doesn't make sense.

What do you call a political system where those in power refuse to seat a duly elected member of the opposition party? Not a democracy that’s for certain.
Screenshot of a tweet from Rep. Greg Stanton (@RepGregStanton) on X. The tweet says House Republicans are shutting down the House to avoid swearing in Adelita Grijalva, calling it undemocratic and unacceptable. The image shows a mostly empty House chamber with several representatives, including Stanton, standing near the podium.

I truly believe our community’s presence today mattered, and that by flooding the zone, we made it harder for ICE to harm our neighbors, and may have prevented greater harm.
