From the Nobel Committee today:

“Democracy depends on people who refuse to stay silent, who dare to step forward despite grave risk, and who remind us that freedom must never be taken for granted, but must always be defended – with words, with courage and with determination.”

I swear, in about twenty years, wealthy countries are going to be competing for immigrants, and wondering why they didn't bring in a whole lot of people twenty years earlier so their grew-up-here kids would be ready to join the workforce.

The massive downsides of low immigration. Soon this could ve everyone's problem.

I think they still do…for some of their shows. Which makes it sound like the decision lies with the artist, right?
jzimbabwe.bsky.social
It sounds like that is the case at _some_ of their shows, but not this one. And that makes it sound like it’s the choice of the artist, right?

Can Seattle folks help me out?

My 13yo’s favorite band is coming to town next month…to play only a 21+ show. I tagged the band in an instagram post to complain, and they responded that it was pi of their hands and up to the venue.

Have you seen an all ages show at The Crocodile before?

Also, remind me to never invite David Kroman over to my house. I’d hate for him to expose the stacks of books and we’ve got a little water damage on a part of the ceiling in our pantry that we haven’t resolved yet.

Even for the corporatist @seattletimes.com, this paragraph from their profile of Katie Wilson is appallingly classist.

I already supported @wilsonforseattle.bsky.social for Mayor *and* I’m more impressed by her lived small apartment experience, which will help our city solve its housing challenge.
A burden bigger than her apartment

Wilson’s apartment can’t be more than 600 square feet. It’s packed with books and wallpaper-plastered along the edges where the walls meet the ceiling, giving it the denlike feel of a speakeasy. At night, she and her husband put their 2-year-old daughter to sleep in a crib in their bedroom, before wheeling her into the living room when it’s their turn to sleep.

It’s just the sort of home one might imagine for a scrappy organizer, but far from Harrell’s 7,000-square-foot Seward Park home, more typical of a big-city mayor. The incongruity between its diminutive size and the enormous scope of the job Wilson wants is dizzying.

That’s not even our minimum wage.

$40k, for real? I know our salary range is out of whack and our housing costs are embarrassing, but the low end of this advertised job equates to $106k annually:

About last night:

@ronnychieng.bsky.social and @hasanminhaj.com have a lot of insight about race and immigration in America, disguised as a comedy bit. Was glad to see it live.

Also, I’d never been to the 5th Avenue Theater before, and it’s gorgeous.

The inspirational bit at the end is good, but I’m also glad to know that Jane Goodall had a burn list.

Dr. Jane Goodall filmed an interview with Netflix in March 2025 that she understood would only be released after her death.

Rest in Peace, Jane Goodall 🙏🏻

On the one hand, it’s mortifying that our leader is the laughing stock of the Copenhagen Summit.

On the other hand, how often does the Albanian Prime Minister just get to totally land back-slappers like this with Macron?

Maybe he _does_ deserve Nobel for building global rapport through humor.

The Prime Minister of Albania came up to Macron and Azerbaijani President Aliyev and joked about how Trump had resolved the conflict between Albania and Azerbaijan.

I mean, if a fancy car had just waited or pulled out on its own, I would not have noticed (not being a car person). Instead, I was like, “oh, something is happening up there…what is going on?”

What business would Zuck have at SMT? Picking up an OTC permit from SDCI?

Ugh.
Just requested a refund for tickets for my family to attend a lecture by an Indigenous artist, because the event is now being advertised as 21+ because they’ll serve beer and wine.

I’ll be an old woman and will be questioning my decision to raise my kids in such a family-unfriendly state.
