KJC Jr is home sick from school so I am making chicken soup before I start the day. I don't care if he's a hulking six footer, he's still my little boy and he still gets chicken soup when he's ill. (Though, now I have to make gallons.)

Just been at the British Sake Association annual grand tasting. Some spectacularly good Dassai in particular, absolutely limpid.

Eeeep, All Of Us Murderers has been picked for NPR's Books We Love selection!
Like an Edwardian Succession, this stylish gothic romp centers a nest of fortune-hunting vipers vying to inherit a fortune. But this is a novel by the phenomenal @kjcharleswriter.com so it’s also stylish and sexy. Fun fun fun. apps.npr.org/best-books/#...

I didn't know people did this and now I want to pay someone to flood all the pirate sites with 'adjusted' versions of all my romance novels.
I truly hope if you're downloading books that you download one of the ones that are uploaded with the fake endings, the random "and then he shit in her mouth and turned her into a zombie" that i know someone is adding that to her romance books & has her sister upload dozens of versions of that.

Jfc what a game. Really thought Argentina were going to snatch that.

Mph. The new book is going like the clappers (16,500 words in the first week!) but the downside is, the only book I want to read is, er, the one I'm writing. :/ I am listening intensively to the Magnus Archives as a substitute and there's always ENGvARG coming up but still.

I guess one difference between me and Elon Musk is that, if I was gaming an AI to say these things about me, and everyone could see that I had done this, I'd have simply no choice but to set myself on fire.

It's our autumn concert in Mill Hill on Saturday! Dvorak, Faure, Saint-Saens and Franck, with four marvellous soloists and a full choir. Do come along if you can; tickets on the door!

the highs and lows of social media encapsulated in a single post.
Was researching an old theatre (boxing venue) in Hull.

Someone on a FB heritage page, under a photo: 'Think I used to go to pantomimes there as a kid!'

A wit replies: 'Oh no you didn't!'

The original poster: 'Is it a different building then?'

I read The Last Hour Between Worlds (The Echo Archives, #1) by Melissa Caruso
K.J. Charles's review of The Last Hour Between Worlds (The Echo Archives, #1)
I really liked the idea behind this. It's a sort of Inception where the characters at a party keep going to deeper, stranger levels of unreality (Echoes), living through the same hour or so in differe...

No I will not be in your goddamn Kindle Translate beta programme.

Woop! I have been "selected to participate in Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP)'s Kindle Translate beta" which is Amazon's new AI-powered translation service, and apparently they'd "love to hear" what I think about this!

Well, they're going to hear it. Whether they will love it...

I've had a few 'what do you do' convs recently, and everyone on hearing I'm an author comes out with "so how do you come up with ideas?", just like every book or movie about a writer has them staring numbly into space because they don't have an idea for the next book. And look, that is Not It.

Not saying that my recent intensive edits on a 115k book were hard work, but I just had a dream about being on a cross channel ferry that did a handbrake turn.

Publishing strategy:

Observe lots of people like romance in fantasy
Label everything romantasy
Observe lots of people like fantasy without romance
Label everything anti-romantasy
Observe lots of people like romance in fantasy
Label everything anti-anti-romantasy...
This week, I was sent a proof from one of the big publishers. In their pack, they described it as an "anti romantasy".

An anti romantasy.

I have so many thoughts about this, I honestly don't know where to begin.

I read Felonious Monk (Tommy Martini, #1) by William Kotzwinkle
K.J. Charles's review of Felonious Monk (Tommy Martini, #1)
I bought this book for the title, obviously. It's a superb title; it's sadly obvious that the book was written to fit it. TBH it feels like the author was winging the whole thing as he went along, and...

Went for a walk and was stopped by two women in athleisurewear who urgently needed me to settle an argument about what colour one of their tops was.

I mean, it was brown? So I said "Coffee" authoritatively, which was met with apparent satisfaction, and went on my way.
