an absurd and destructive move from valve towards one of the most exciting studios out there
Our upcoming game HORSES was preemptively banned from Steam, with no path to appeal. The game will still launch next week on December 2nd and will be available on EGS, GOG, Humble, and Itch for $4.99. Here is a detailed FAQ covering what happened: horses.wtf/BannedFromSt...

It would be disastrous if Santa Ragione were to close. Really hope this gets resolved and/or Horses is a success
NEW: Indie studio Santa Ragione is facing closure after its surreal horror title, Horses, was barred from Steam ahead of its upcoming December release

The studio behind Saturnalia and Wheels of Aurelia said Valve has yet to adequately explain why an early version of Horses was blacklisted in 2023.

Really wild situation here: a celebrated and well-regarded indie dev and publisher is facing shutdown because Valve banned their game from Steam and won't talk to them about it, at all.

If I were feeling spicy I might suggest that Santa Ragione being publicly critical of Steam in the past might have been an influence on this decision

I am extremely cross about this behaviour. Steam continues to arbitrarily censor people for spurious reasons - even NO given reason - and leave developers no recourse

Amazing to learn that Isaac Chotiner can apparently just come for you in your replies. Like suddenly realizing you're swimming in open ocean

Recency bias, as I finished this last week, but The Killer Question by Janice Hallett is great. A local pub quiz gone very wrong, the structure controls how the story unfolds without being heavy handed, and is extra enjoyable. & of course it has the signature modern epistolary style. Smashing stuff

πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡ΊCourt of Justice just ruled all πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ίcountries must recognise same-sex marriages granted in other member states.

I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as β€œthe most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

Check in on my nepenthes collection: Jessica Rabbit has bounced back from losing all her cups after a fall bd is doing better than ever. Elvira is thriving but may be drawing life force from Nancy Reagan, who is decidedly failing to thrive. I might try repotting her.

I realise some authors would't want their books pirated under any circumstances, and I understand that. Many authors are struggling themselves!
