I am convinced a large part of the crusade against universities as hot beds of leftwing bias and sedition is because people like Goodwin feel the need to make Nobody Wants To Be My Friend an 'its everyone else's fault!' issue
With every outright racist things he says I think back to his former students and colleagues at a pretty diverse university who had to work with someone who clearly did not respect or value them.

"The industry's finest sustainable storyteller" is an appellation that we'll wear with pride. Thank you, @jeremypeel.bsky.social and the Edge team, for this wonderful profile in January's issue.

Huge dilemma. I need a wee, but the normally rambunctious dogs are both sleeping peacefully near the door.

oh yes I should have said in my post earlier, my audio book has made _me_ £2550 in three years, publishers take their cut first.
Oh one thing I should add is that earning out an advance on royalties is not the same as the book being profitable to your publisher; those are different numbers, but they are frequently conflated in these discussions. Ok done. Thank you!

The abolition of the two-child benefit cap, which punishes children for their parents' circumstances, is the best part of the budget, potentially lifting almost half a million children out of poverty.

It may also be the part that comes under fiercest attack. So it needs celebrating and defending.
And the two child benefit limit is abolished. An enormous victory for those who have campaigned tirelessly for eight long years through successive governments. This will lift at least 450,000 children out of poverty. Fewer kids will be hungry. No more women forced to disclose their rape.

I was extremely pleased to get my first ever royalties on my first ever book, which came out in 2023. It was £50 from sales of the audio book, which had an advance of (if memory serves) £2,500. So the audiobook of Grave Expectations has made £2,550 in nearly three years.
The majority of books published lose money and the majority of authors do not earn out their advances if they were lucky enough to get one. If you do the math on an hourly wage, writing is frankly bonkers as any kind of career.

Of course another consequence of removing juries from all but the most serious crimes is that those pesky juries won’t be able to find annoying protestors not guilty.

THANK YOU, I feel like I'm taking CRAZY PILLS. Everyone can still think it's a bad article but god can you not take five minutes to read the damn thing first
I feel like we should be able to pick up the mocking tone from this headline. How do you *not* read 'the intoxicating appeal of being attacked by a Yak' as less than 200% earnest? I think we're so used to sanewashing and bullshit equivocating headlines that we see them everywhere now.
The women drawn to RFK Jr. see an intoxicating cocktail of romance and danger—whether it's getting attacked by a yak or texting about taking metaphorical bullets for each other.

But to most others, Kennedy is a reckless conspiracy theorist whose appetite for danger will result in a sicker America.

whatever you think about writing this piece at all, do feel the need to point out that the writer makes it very clear that they do not think RFK has sex appeal and the article is not kind to him.

The inexplicable sex appeal of RFK Jr.
How can such ferocious desire be attached to this man? Two memoirs by the women who love him offer some clues.

oh Americans may not understand this, but a 'magistrate' in the UK is a local volunteer with typically no legal background. But it's ok, they receive about 10 days of training. And now they can send you to jail for two years without a jury!

The studio behind Saturnalia and Wheels of Aurelia said Valve has yet to adequately explain why an early version of Horses was blacklisted in 2023.
