My son rushed down after school to get a chance to meet Martin Sheen, whom he idolizes after completing the full run of The West Wing. It was a big thrill to meet him and talk politics.

Then we showed him a photo of our son dressed up as a cowboy while in Montana and Sheen asked if he was an actor and said he looked like he was performing in “OOOOOKLAHOMA!” Hearing him sing was a cherry on top.

We paid for an autograph for our son who just finished watching the WW and we told Sheen about how he wants to go into politics, which Sheen liked.

I got to shake Martin Sheen’s hand today at #NYCC and I know it’s like West Wing nostalgia methadone, but goddamn it made me smile so big to talk to him.

I feel like this photo of masked, armed men pepper spraying a pastor protecting his community is going to be a defining picture of this moment in America for a long, long time.

The fact that Kaleb Horton died begging for work instead having a column at some hip legacy mag is such an indictment of this industry. People should have been begging to put him on payroll. But nope, we've reserved that space for Ezra Klein

It seems that Kaleb Horton has passed away. A devastating loss. One of the best writers of this generation. Kaleb was a friend for ten years and in all our conversations I was trying to convince him how good he was, something he seemed to know but also never fully believe. I am going to go cry now.

I’m never going to stop being mad that hedge funds and tech middlemen siphoned off all the money that should’ve let someone like Kaleb Horton have the career he deserved

As you cancel streaming services, here is a casual reminder that only 16% of Americans read for pleasure anymore, and your local library has hundreds or thousands of books you haven't read.

They would love to see you stop by and renew your library card.

Many people and institutions that fight back are winning.

This is a large part of the reason to scorn the people and institutions that have caved. When this is over their lives should be made miserable. More, I mean.

Kimmel won. Winning matters, wins are how we’re going to prevent this autocratic slide.
