A useful reply from @heikewhynot.bsky.social noting that other estimates suggest the figure is between 16,000 and 17,000 people. Closer to 0.4 per cent of the total Citizen’s Income claimants and a lot less than the 0.6 per cent figure cited in my first post. bsky.app/profile/heik...

Diese Zahl ist auch nicht richtig.
„Die große Mehrheit der Leistungsminderungen (über 80 Prozent) erfolgte nicht wegen Arbeitsverweigerung, sondern wegen Meldeversäumnissen – zum Beispiel, wenn Empfängerinnen oder Empfänger einen Termin beim Jobcenter versäumten.“

The real number of "total refusers" is really very low...perhaps 23,000 out of 4m claimants.

And yet this is the molehill that the government is making a mountain out of in guiding its policy.

I believe the phrase is „aus einer Mücke einen Elefanten zu machen“.

I am reading reports that the German coalition has agreed the main parts of its welfare "reform" package. Details still emerging.

This shift toward a more punitive logic and harsher sanctions will come at the cost of human rights.
