PS I have so many times seen people carelessly misquote someone, and when their invented quote is questioned, they counter: "Well, it's the sort of thing he/she/you *would* say."

Someone: *posts obviously fake video of reporter arrest*
Everyone: That's obviously fake!
Someone else: posts about *real* reported arrest
A lot of people: I heard that was fake?

Solar conjunction for our Europa spacecraft is now over! While we did not uplink commands for about 10 days, we were getting some telemetry confirming yhr health of the vehicle. The team is now back in the driver seat! To check out the current location of Clipper:

I'm reading about pareidolia, our brain's tendency to see human faces in everything -- if it looks a bit like two eyes above a mouth, we see a face. 🙂 I thought of the "programme pattern" in the auton daffodils -- they also have a simplified diagram of the human face.

I thought of the projected lifespan of nuclear power plants and went Googling. The figure I remember is 20-30 years; but that's now being stretched into additional decades through a combination of thrift (new plants are expensive), engineering (some parts can be replaced), and wishful thinking.

I've blocked the poster, so I can't show you the video of the three-armed reporter, but it was frightening, and not because of her supernumerary limbs. AI can now convincingly fake a short video. Well... almost. There won't always be absurd artefacts to give the game away.
