I’ve got myself out of the house this evening and crossed London to the distant reaches of Hackney Wick, and I’m remembering again how lucky I am to live in a city where I could get here via the underground and a bus and go home again via the overground and a bus. Every city should be like this

The law around speed signs is complicated but I’m pretty sure the 20mph roundels on the carriageway can take the place of upright repeaters. I will check this with our officers. The police lack resource and inclination to enforce speed. Local authorities would be happy to be assigned these powers!

3/ There were more people on bikes than cars during the morning peak on June 25 weekdays. The overall daily average was 37% cyclists, so more than 1 cyclist for every 2 cars. @katherinedunne.bsky.social @shansview.bsky.social @willnorman.co.uk @hounslowcouncil.bsky.social

Good to hear Holly Ridley announce the launch of Cohort 8 of Jo Cox Women in Leadership Scheme at conference. Hundreds of women have taken part with many now in parliament or other leadership positions. Look out for info from @teamlabouruk.bsky.social & @labourwomensnet.bsky.social on how to apply
This is brilliant news and shows that political courage works. Well done @sadiqkhanlondon.bsky.social and your team as well as all the borough leaders, lead members, councillors and campaigners who have enacted and championed policies to improve the quality of the air we all breathe
184 years earlier than predicted, London has met the legal limits for toxic NO2 for the first time.

This historic milestone proves that bold action like expanding ULEZ works, protecting children’s health and giving millions cleaner air to breathe.
London Ulez reduced nitrogen dioxide to legal limit, mayor says
The mayor of London says the fall in airborne toxins is due to the Ultra low emission zone expansion.

Solidarity with Anna Dixon. Politicians of all parties have a responsibility to be truthful, to not mislead others or inflame situations that may put people at risk, including their political opponents.
I want residents to be aware that I have received threats of death and violence directly posted in response to a misleading video recently shared by the MP for Keighley and Ilkley, Robbie Moore.

It’s one thing to disagree with MPs, but quite another to make threats of death and violence. And the actions of the Tory MP are wholly unacceptable

Good to see the gov explore different levers for taxing wealth - and there’s no shortage in options to implement fairer and more effective taxation of wealth. Eg equalising Capital Gains Tax & income tax, so that income from wealth is taxed at the same rate as income from work, could raise £14bn/yr.

Car drivers who hit people cycling frequently claim the cyclist “came out of nowhere” regardless of the type of bike they were riding. I hope the driver in this case was prosecuted and that Flora pursues compensation from them. I also hope she’s able to get back on a bike, Lime or otherwise.
