Printing presses kept their letters in cases.

Capital letters went in the upper case.
Smaller letters went in the lower case.

This is why we say ‘UPPER CASE’ and ‘lower case.’

Ok, but what did we call them before the invention of the printing press?

MAJUSCULE and minuscule.

One of the cartoons in my new book 'Physics for Cats' which is out now in the UK, USA, Canada, France and Germany. Order from your local bookshops or online: www.tomgauld.com/
Two beetles on a stick.
One beetle says to the other "Do you ever get the feeling we are being observed by another lifeform"
Zoom out to reveal that they are in a glass case with two scientists studying them.
One scientist says to the other "Do you ever get the feeling we are being observed by another lifeform"
Zoom out into space. Abouard a spaceship, two aliens watch the scientists on a screen.
One alien says to the other "Do you ever get the feeling we are being observed by another lifeform"
The aliens turn to look out at the reader.

The cat came to the usual meadow. It comes here because the breeze feels so nice. And it loves the town visible from here. Plus, playing in the meadow and seeing KOKEDAMACHAN and friends has become one of its favorite things to do.

Day 9: BEWITCHING 🧙‍♀️🐈‍⬛

#SuperBatober #Inktober #inktober2025
SUPERBATOBER 09: BEWITCHING -- Catwoman has just pulled of another of her classic and witchy heists, a cat-eared diamond and cauldron full of jewels in her mitts. Batman is too entranced by her beautiful "spell" to do much about it (at the annoyance of Batgirl and endearment of Supergirl).

Tabling at Geek Markets Wollongong today!
The comics half of my table, featuring print copies of “Katrie and the Tale-Bearer”, “Monsters”, “Kinds of Blue” and “Like Mothers”. The prose part of my table, featuring my novella “The Dating Program”, and a short story called “Elise” that is modelled on the story of the wild swans. View of the con floor. Are you friends with anyone who does framing? Maybe you could come to some reciprocal arrangement where you pay them in art??

Apparently arts degrees are so worthless they need to be stopped, yet the product of those degrees is so valuable paying for it would bring down an entire industry.

Make it make sense.
Headline screenshot. The leader of the Conservative Party saying we need to "Curb students taking 'rip-off' degrees such as English." Headline screenshot. The former leader of the Liberal Democrats, also former Meta employee, claiming that asking artists for permission to use their work (i.e. paying for it) would "kill" the A.I. industry.
