Sou Seta extracts Light from the heart of Fae King Cait Sith. While Sou's expression is one of calm concentration, King Cait's is one of feral rage, fear, and indignance. How dare this trespasser take their things...?!

Cait has probably already been defeated in combat at this point. Their stances are entangled, Sou supporting Cait's weight on her knee while Cait reels to scratch at Sou.

It is clearly Sou Seta's intention to try to save the woman wearing the mantle. But what other fate could possibly await such a cruel, heartless usurper than the very same...?

Also I gave Cait kitty peets and claws and teefs as part of the lightwarden transformation i guess. They deserve them

HANCOCK, thinking with dread: they. COULDN'T be

the panel structure quickly begins to fall apart again, as if it was made of leaves that are now being blown away. Hancock pushes his glasses up his nose, almost giggling in fear.

HANCOCK, thinking: actually *DEAD*
no. No no.
*NOT* possible.

He covers his face fully with both hands.

HANCOCK, thinking: n-now, calm down,
panicking will only

suddenly, a *hand*, on HANCOCK's shoulder.

HANCOCK screams, high pitched and loud.

SOU SETA, whose hand it was, gently holds both of HANCOCK's, even as he curls them towards his chest. Tears drip down his cheeks.
HANCOCK: "S-S-Sou! S-Sou Set--a--"
SOU: "You'll smudge your glasses. Don't cover them with your hands"

SOU SETA's blank, mildly concerned face, and all of their clothes, are completely pristine.

A heavy autumn chill bears down on the unnerved Hancock. He continues to tremble.

HANCOCK: "Are you *sure* you're all right?"
SOU: "I'm fine."
HANCOCK: "Y-You were gone for hours..."
SOU: "I fell down the mountain. I had to climb back up."

SOU's clothes are sparkling clean and undamaged.

HANCOCK, narrating/thinking: You say that ...but...
I've never seen anyone
look so uncannily perfect after pulling such a stunt.

Autumn leaves bracket his perception of the memory.

After returning to Kugane, HANCOCK is served tea by his commissioner.

COMMISSIONER: "The shinobi? Yozakura the Fleeting, by your descriptions of her attacks. But... Yozakura-san"

HANCOCK remembers the shinobi, her face blank - literally blank, its only feature a wash of autumnal orange.

COMMISSIONER: "perished during the evacuation."

HANCOCK imagines Sou Seta's face. It has the same blank, autumnal wash.

HANCOCK's glasses are the same colour. He fears the possibilities. Did Sou truly survive? Or were they simply replaced by a doppelganger, the same as Yozakura?
