i kinda blame the donghua for this because the donghua shows him basically panic-reacting to situations he's put in, which is extremely funny and i love it, but in the book he's actually constantly thinking and planning

I think real damage was done to Shen Qingqiu’s characterization when we started thinking of him as “oblivious narrator who never understands anything” instead of “guy who is extremely perceptive about the narrative that he thinks he’s in, which he isn’t”

i have a vitamix (and i love it) and my advice is, i was able to get one for MUCH cheaper by waiting for a big sale day (it was cyber monday) and buying a refurbished one. it is loud though. but it's also incredible, i put raw cashews in my smoothie every day and it's no problem
