Or maybe I'll let them all survive and torture them in other ways? Humans have become creatures of comfort, so when they lose that familiarity, some will do anything to get that back. Even if it means turning their backs on family or those they considered family.

Yes, it was. Some filmmakers even advocated making films sans titles where possible. The goal was to fit as much information into as few cards as possible. Relying on cards over filmed action was the sign of either a low budget or pretentiousness.

You mentioned something else that struck me. The movie depends on title cards too much. There’s always the Show, Don’t Tell idea in writing, and I was wondering if that was a lm artistic tenet in early movie making as well? 🎥 🍿
