“Concerns over an AI bubble bursting have grown lately, with analysts recently finding that it’s 17 times the size of the dotcom-era bubble and four times bigger than the 2008 financial crisis.”

Hang onto your butts. This “correction” is gonna hurt.

The government knows this is bad policy because they've announced it on a Sunday.
The continued priority of short-term profit over long-term solutions is utterly shameful. Farmers will not be better off when the next cyclone or flood comes. www.rnz.co.nz/news/nationa...
Government lowers methane target, rules out methane taxes
The government is lowering its biogenic methane target for the next 25 years, a move opposed by the Greens and environmental activists.

There may be genuine issues here that need to be addressed but I also suspect that "inherent mistrust of the private sector" comes from experience. For every good developer there are plenty of others who just want to maximise profit at the expense of the community/ratepayers. It's common.

I'm saying this as someone who got a ute bogged recently driving through an area where this was very obviously going to happen.

You should know by now that rhetorical questions don't exist on social media Jackson.

Botany should be taught as a life skill at High School because I can tell from here with the rushes and the bright green isolepis (indicating it is very wet) that you wouldn't want to drive a ute in here.

You get trained to argue ridiculous points of view but then some people go on to making a living out of it.

A lot of lessons to be learned from this. I've done some emergency management training in the last 18 months & there is definitely a shift towards escalating warnings sooner. It does seem odd that Merservice is blaming the HBRC hydrologist though. Ultimately it's Merservices call.

Yeah it definitely depends on what has been requested. In the stats provided the spy agencies are up around 30 days.

Emails are difficult too because it can be hundreds of pages that all need to have things redacted and then reviewed. This is all on top of BAU which can get pretty hectic.

I've received a number of document requests well under 20 working days from NZTA, DOC and MPI so I can't agree with you there. But yes get your point around average and median time frames.

Vance is very wrong here: "OIA process - a process that usually takes a minimum of 20 working days."

Reality: "Overall, agencies responded on time to 97.7% of requests, with the average time to respond to all OIA requests, including extensions, at 13.2 days."

This is a particular problem in journalism right now, where decisions about who gets to represent certain viewpoints distorts the wider public's understanding.

We all belong to communities with differing standards for who we should or shouldn't listen to, but if your understanding of contrary views involves only paying attention to the absolutely fringe-iest people outside your own communities, you're not doing yourself any favours.

Thanks Sophie, it hasn't happened yet but we are heading in the right direction. Also worth acknowledging the two decades of work that has led up to this point as well!
