I am afeared to ask what has happened now in that particular corner.
New tools need new ethics to go with them. If your tool only destroys then it's only a weapon. #UBI #WritersRights #AIethics

4 of 4.
If you’re getting rich off the labour, expression, and insight of others without paying anything back, that’s exploitation. Writers made the words that built the web, the worlds, and the works you’re now feeding to machines. If #AI’s the future, then it owes them royalties.

If companies want to profit from the collective mind of writers and artists, fine. Pay for it. Compensate the people whose work you mined. If this tech is as world-changing and profitable as they say, then let them fund a universal basic income for the very creators they’re replacing.

As an editor & mentor, I’ve been watching young writers lose heart by sheer force of watching their futures get strip-mined by #AI that learned from them, for free.
Bright, passionate writers look at their dreams and say, “what’s the point?” If creativity isn't viable, culture collapses. 🧵1~
Took a peek southward last night and let out the tiniest sigh of relief. Like, barely audible. The storm’s still hovering, but there was this one shy beam of sunlight that made it through. We’ll see if it holds.

She was known as "America's Sweetheart" but Mary Pickford was proudly Canadian.
Born in Toronto, her fame was second only to Charlie Chaplin during the Silent Film Era. She was also a trailblazer in many ways in Hollywood.
This is her story.

My mum stayed at the hotel a few times before I was born. She's told me stories about the halls, the lights flickering at night, the presences. But she never saw the bride.
Mum told me today that Tom Daley apparently is heavily into knitting. I can’t stop imagining him diving into the water wearing one of those monstrously long bathing suits from the 1910s, which were knitted wool. I think he should.

Was a rough night for mum, she was in some discomfort, so we stayed up watching TV. I’d always avoided the BBC Pride and Prejudice (Austen adaptations never quite translate for me), but now I understand the Barbie joke far too well. And now, naturally, I’m the one who can’t sleep.
I can identify with this. Except mine would have to be 3-D, complete with sudden sparks of inspiration while I’m mid-crochet, or when some totally unrelated notion barges in, only to loop back into a new idea for my story anyway.
Well… that kinda sounds like what the title of my memoirs should be. Admittedly.
Goodness, that’s a bit disheartening. Kinda makes me think about shuttering my account. Feels like there’s always some sort of tarnish whenever investors are present these days.
How did this pass me by? I think I will have to order it.
Kinda behind the curve on those new terms of service with the bad phrasing. Are they still going ahead? Been all ‘mum time’ lately, and honestly it’s hard even being on social media with everything going on nowadays.

Who else has managed to get their mum hooked on crocheting?

She told me, “I refuse to do old lady things.”
And I said, “Mum, think of it this way: I’m the old lady now. You’re just keeping me company.”

Seems to have worked out alright.
So, mum’s got me hooked on Gabaldon. Again. 📚 This is terrible news for my productivity, ‘cause now I’ll be side-eyeing those books for hours when I should be reading other stuff. Send help. Or tea.
Had to cut my trip short ’cause of an emergency, but good news: mum’s out of the hospital and settling in! 💖 Been keeping her company, going through old stuff … found a notebook of stories I wrote as a kid.

Oh my gosh, baby Scorpia was busy. And obsessed with clovers. Y

es, clovers.
