Australia's humpback whales are doing so well that their population is expected to reach carrying capacity and plateau in the near future--they have not just reached but exceeded pre-whaling numbers. For this to happen with such a long-lived, slow-reproducing species is near miraculous. #goodnews

These whales were hunted to 150 individuals. Now there are 50,000 of them

Once hunted almost to extinction, the population of humpback whales currently migrating down Australia's east coast has bounced back and is now greater than before whaling.

Oh wow. I used to turn this on while I got ready for high school hoping to see my favorite videos before I had to leave and I'd watch after school while doing homework and we'd turn it on during parties sometimes or just while hanging out. It was a staple of my youth.

Just sending support because oof I’ve been through this so many times. It’s wild how sometimes people will get annoyed and just keep a running tally of grievances without ever saying like “hey this thing bothered me” and giving you a chance to work it out before they just erupt all over you. 😭

At this point in 2025 I start every day as a bag of bones that I try to assemble into some kind of skeleton as the day goes on. Sometimes the skeleton has three arms and the head is at the bottom but it is still a functional skeleton, crawling around on its head. Be nice to your weird skeleton!

Once again, one reason Trump says & does whatever he wants is bc every societal institution, including the media, has totally normalized & internalized the idea that the laws, the Constitution, & the international treaties we have signed & ratified simply don’t apply to this one guy. No mention at all of the fact that Trump doesn't have the legal authority to do this, that plans haven't even been reviewed (because the office is closed for the government shutdown), that the size and cost estimates keep changing, etc., etc.
