I looked at goats, picked too many pumpkins, and put up Halloween decor today. Also went on a walk and found an abandoned overripe zucchini squash in the trailhead parking lot?? I’d leave it too. 😂
A goat, lost in the sauce, is standing in the hay feeder. A goat begs for snacks. A zucchini squash sits abandoned on a fence post.

Oh that's so interesting! You kind of got an experience opposite of mine but which still fueled your curiosity, that's great. I lived the rural conservative farm kid life but the internet opened doors for me as a teen and I started finding understanding for my unhappiness.

Thank you for sharing!

I always think of it as like "reaction" vs "response." The first is impulsive judgment, the second involves an informed opinion. If someone identifies as "non-judgmental" they have their eyes closed. 😆

It feels so good to see yourself in fiction but it's even better to be seen in reality. 💞

The above are trends and patterns, not laws. We're all subject to culture and environment and whatever nourishment we receive or don't from others that play a role too in how we express desire. But man. 🧍‍♀️ It is a privilege to never challenge yourself and ignorance grieves me.

Women aren't taught to be chasers; the American millennial education for women was Don't Get Pregnant and Guard Your Virtue lmao. Responsibility toward desire through the puritanical system was to suppress it, but emotional availability was Hot. Guess what two women collectively reach for first?

People don't realize how pervasive internalized misogyny and homophobia are in tandem and how it bleeds into our behaviors, projections, and expectations toward others and ourselves; this exists on /top/ of the gendered social scripts that are imposed on all of us because we live in a Society.

Story time and re: Baldwin: I was thinking about a date I went on a few weeks ago where I was sitting across from a woman who was telling me how hard it is to date women and that women are "scary" and men express desire that women "don't." I wanted to laugh but I felt exhausted instead.

Thinking about James Baldwin's Another Country and the "what was it like to be a man, condemned to men?" line. And because I can't be normal here's an old write up on the gendered scripts at play that Vivaldo imposes on Eric during their sexual encounter. lavendre.dreamwidth.org/103547.html

Lmao you are totally fine, I was not dismayed in the least, I always enjoy reading your thoughts! 😄

And Clive needs a polite shakedown, he’s such a good and sad lad.

Stopped on the street to let traffic out of a parking lot on the way to work and didn’t even get a wave of acknowledgment. I’m evil now.

“Falling flat” was the wrong term for me to use; what I meant was that for all the talk of freedom and identity permeating Clive’s pursuits, Clive’s messy path forward is utterly tangled with Joshua and Cid, not that I found his journey a failure or unrewarding in its complexity!
lavendre.bsky.social
Tangent, tbh I think Clive’s story is about forging an opportunity for others at the cost of his own identity. Even outside of Joshua he’s “Cid.” The narrative of freedom is one he’s kind of excluded from on the premise of becoming a chameleon (by necessity or “choice”) of sorts wherever he lands.

🧵I enjoy that Clive was raised in dysfunction because it keeps human volition in question, right up until the end.

How "free" is Clive really, when he's raised to see protecting Joshua as the core of his life's meaning? Although there's a beauty to their brotherly love, there's an undeniable +

- experience a life completely outside of each other without their roles of imposed guardianship taking root (which may never happen in their lifetime). Tl;dr I hadn’t thought of Joshua in the driver seat but it’s very true. Their story is all about codependency even within their familial love.
lavendre.bsky.social
- apparent death, what Joshua represents is retconned; it only commits to Clive forming a new self during Joshua’s absence before he returns and Clive inevitably starts centering him again. I feel like Clive’s story won’t really “begin” until their bond is severed or at the very least they -
