Ink drawing of Dion Lesage from Final Fantasy 16, sitting down, bandages around his torso and arm. In the background, a giant crystal shaped like the wyvern tail flower is seen, alongside lanterns drifting on the water.

Lmao you are totally fine, I was not dismayed in the least, I always enjoy reading your thoughts! 😄

And Clive needs a polite shakedown, he’s such a good and sad lad.

Stopped on the street to let traffic out of a parking lot on the way to work and didn’t even get a wave of acknowledgment. I’m evil now.

“Falling flat” was the wrong term for me to use; what I meant was that for all the talk of freedom and identity permeating Clive’s pursuits, Clive’s messy path forward is utterly tangled with Joshua and Cid, not that I found his journey a failure or unrewarding in its complexity!

Tangent, tbh I think Clive’s story is about forging an opportunity for others at the cost of his own identity. Even outside of Joshua he’s “Cid.” The narrative of freedom is one he’s kind of excluded from on the premise of becoming a chameleon (by necessity or “choice”) of sorts wherever he lands.

🧵I enjoy that Clive was raised in dysfunction because it keeps human volition in question, right up until the end.

How "free" is Clive really, when he's raised to see protecting Joshua as the core of his life's meaning? Although there's a beauty to their brotherly love, there's an undeniable +

- experience a life completely outside of each other without their roles of imposed guardianship taking root (which may never happen in their lifetime). Tl;dr I hadn’t thought of Joshua in the driver seat but it’s very true. Their story is all about codependency even within their familial love.

- apparent death, what Joshua represents is retconned; it only commits to Clive forming a new self during Joshua’s absence before he returns and Clive inevitably starts centering him again. I feel like Clive’s story won’t really “begin” until their bond is severed or at the very least they -

The topic of freedom with Clive definitely fell flat (for me) with the active return of Joshua’s character to the narrative. It defeated the misery Clive had to process and the identity he had to form in his absence bc while there were awful consequences for Clive personally following Joshua’s -

IT'S GOOD STUFF. The making of Logos is a pretty fun dissection into craft and collaborative creative processes actually.

Terence, unlike Dion, doesn't have room for error; he's a lesser class and a poorer man and is replaceable. Dion may err but he can't be dismissed, only punished or constrained. That Dion can tempt some indignity and get away with it is par for the course, but Terence doesn't have that luxury.

I think it's interesting how stalwart Terence is vs Dion, who while attentive and firm in his duty, is always exhibiting self-restraint to supersede his own feelings.
