about Columbus’ virtue (although it was begun by Italians who wanted to give Italian folk (which Columbus was) a day they could feel good about. Connecting the two hemispheres was huge and transformed our world. Pretending that shouldn’t matter bc the guy we’d been taught to revere maybe sucked is?/

denouncing Columbus while living on indigenous land that they’re on only because an explorer (Columbus, in this case), successfully got European powers interested in the Americas. Hence why so many European and other immigrants (and some who came unwillingly) now live here. The day has never been 4/

of his voyages and found accounts of genocide, rape, and generally horrible behavior. Whether Columbus engaged in this himself or just those who ran some of his later voyages we don’t actually know but people THINK they know and they base their judgment on that. They feel extremely righteous 2/

A bunch of things going on here. Most older ppl were taught in school that Columbus discovered “America.” In fact, he discovered a few islands in the Caribbean. This made a lot of people feel they’d been lied to and that Columbus didn’t “deserve” the day. In addition, ppl began looking at records 1/

The day doesn’t celebrate Columbus’ morality. That thinking is childlike. It’s that he’s was the first explorer to really open up a connection to the New World and the result was that you and I are living where we are. Also Google “Columbian exchange,” a world-changing event. Every explorer sucked.

Quick update on what we just saw here—*before curfew*, ISP troopers, Broadview PD and CCSO deputies began menacing demonstrators outside the ICE facility. Several arrests.

Pepper ball guns at the ready, a bit of a standoff going with remaining protesters. All people are doing is playing music.

More ignorance on your part. A good percentage of homeschoolers are agnostic liberals. And many are doing it because they have special needs kids who they don’t feel the school system is treating well. Congrats, jerk, you’ve come full circle on beating up special needs kids on a thread about that.
