Some of these people have now been fired and rehired TWICE since January. The current state of dysfunction is mind boggling.

OOOPS! UPDATE: Two HHS officials tell me that disease detectives, measles response officers, global health officials and the MMWR staff were laid off by mistake and will be reinstated. But Washington office is still RIFed

BREAKING: Friday night massacre underway at CDC. Doznes of "disease detectives," high-level scientists, entire Washington staff and editors of the MMWR (Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report) have all been RIFed and received the following notice:

The first reports of what would eventually be called AIDS and its causative agent identified as HIV were published in the MMWR in 1981 alerting health care and public health systems across the country. A tremendous loss for public health.

“Amid the smoke bombs and screams that ricocheted throughout a South Shore building last month during a massive military-style immigration raid, one man heard a knock on his door.

On the other side was a mom and her 7-year-old daughter, pleading for his help.”
Neighbor shielded 7-year-old during South Shore federal raid: ‘I didn’t want them to take her’
During the Sept. 30 raid, one tenant protected a terrified girl and her mom. Remnants at the complex, including a detailed map of all the units, offer clues to what authorities may have known before t...

The editors of the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) were apparently fired today.

The precursor to MMWR began in 1878 to address emerging public health threats rapidly.

We are not “great” without it. We are vulnerable to threats from sporadic foodborne illness to bioterrorism.

I hate how accurate this is

I don’t know who needs to hear this but the CDC is being eviscerated right now. America is not going to have any kind of outbreak response capacity after tonight. Americans’ health data is no longer secure. Say goodbye to federal public health in any capacity. It’s a disaster. We won’t recover.

Terrible news for the United States and the world.
It’s heartbreaking to see such a valuable institution (and its experts!!) decimated like this.

This 🧵 is long so please bear with me. It is compiles evidence in a historical timeline on how effective #COVIDVaccines are. When a pandemic ends we quickly and easily forget the tools that got us out of it. So here is my labour day gift to you prompted by this headline.

So regressive & dystopian it feels like, um, The Handmaid’s Tale…👇

“…public school board is yanking more than 200 books from its library…”

“…including literary classics such as author Margaret Atwood’s ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’”

Absolutely. Must relish these ball
in shoe moments!

I went to put my shoes on this morning and there was a bouncy ball in my shoe.
One day, there won’t be any more bouncy balls in my shoes. And that made me sad.

Iranian freedom fighters Hossein and Hassan Ronaghi have been kidnapped and are being held by the Islamic regime as it cracks down.

Hassan was kidnapped last week, and Hossein was kidnapped yesterday.

The health of their parents, who have already been through years of hell, is suffering greatly.
Four people stand together in front of a beige brick wall. From left to right: Hassan Ronaghi, wearing a light blue shirt, gently rests his hand on the shoulder of his mother, who is dressed in a black headscarf and dark clothing; next to her is Hossein Ronaghi, with a shaved head and mustache, wearing a navy blue T-shirt; on the far right is their father, an older man with a white beard and short white hair, dressed in a white shirt. The family stands close together, appearing somber but united.

These are the Iranian voices we should be listening to — Nobel laureates calling for peace.

War is horrific. It should be a last resort.

Every life matters and deserves protection.

These may sound trite, but we seem to have forgotten.

The pandemic was overwhelming and deeply personal. As an ID doc, I thought maybe I could help.

But this moment — with rising authoritarianism in the US, war in Iran, genocide in Gaza, and public health under attack — feels dizzying, overwhelming, and helpless 😟

I was initially going to say: “The US gets the best and brightest of Iran. Let them come to Canada instead!” (which is true)

But bans like this don’t just restrict travel. They strip people of their humanity. Reduce them to their govt & passports. And teach us to see others as lesser & unworthy.

Twelve countries grappled on Thursday with the news that President Trump had barred them from traveling to the U.S., reviving a travel ban from his first term that led to chaos and legal challenges. nyti.ms/43tLmYT
