Many birds with young migrated through Chicago last night.

At least 100 were found dead in downtown Chicago this morning-& it’s only the beginning. Many bird strikes go unreported.

Keep lights out 11pm-6am to prevent bird deaths

“persecution of porcupines took place in the last century when they were clubbed to death, poisoned & trapped. Basically, it was a war on porcupines, because of this reputation they have as tree damagers..not popular with the timber industry, orchardists, or dog owners” www.opb.org/article/2024...

Do raptor decals on windows decrease bird collisions? Unfortunately, #birds avoid decals and still hit windows. Watch as researchers use a flight tunnel to test which decal patterns reduce deadly bird strikes. No birds harmed (video by @cornellbirds.bsky.social): www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_Qz.... 🌎

"Today as we witness the aftermath of a millennia-long relentless ecological, environmental and climate holocaust, some still choose to call this disaster a “civilisation”. As a biologist, I prefer to refer to it by its scientific term: a quickly escalating pest infestation."

sage grouse's population declines are mostly being caused by degradation of sagebrush habitat. there are more perches for raptors, fences, transmission lines, roads-but also energy & livestock industries have done everything in their power to keep them from being listed endangered

What frightens me most about Halloween cobwebs isn’t how they look…..it’s that they catch the living.
Enjoy the season, but keep the plastic webs indoors; or skip them altogether.

The IUCN calls the extinction crisis a mix of “hope and concern.” But hope thrives in the absence of honesty. Humanity would rather lie to itself about endless growth than face the limits of a finite planet.

It’s #WorldMigratoryBirdDay! 🐦 #Birds face many dangers on their migration, and one danger they face too often is free-roaming cats. Create #SharedSpaces by keeping #CatsIndoors, in catios, or on a leash and harness to help birds survive their migrations. 🏠🐈

If you think biodiversity loss is irrelevant to you...
If you think it's not that big an issue...
If you think it doesn't really affect you personally...
If you think it's someone else's problem...

... Boy oh boy, you and your kids have a hell of a shock coming.
