It's a sinister place. The brutality there seems both new and very, very old. And in many ways it's still just a regular office building. But then you turn a corner and the worst shit is happening.

I really appreciate the brevity of this letter and its focus on MIT's values. Kornbluth doesn't fall into the trap of rehashing all the points in the so-called compact, but instead summarizes them as "principles with which we disagree."

The amazing pause here from Miller is him realizing he said the quiet part out loud (probably a few months early) and then freezing like a possum in the face of a coyote or something as a defensive measure.
