I think that @yungquiabo.bsky.social and @hungryghoast.bsky.social will agree with me when I say that academic deans are the same thing as college football coaches, in that they are hired to do bad things, they do them badly, they cost a lot of money, and it costs even more to get rid of them

This really seems like an "up and out" kind of promotion, where the expectation is that this AI provost will either retire in the next 3 years, or (more likely) take a dean/provost/president position at a much less prestigious school, possibly somewhere overseas
