As recently as May, even this SCOTUS was happy to rule against Trump on treatment of migrants.
Then, like a flipped switch, they stopped.

What happened? Was SCOTUS threatened? With what, and by whom? CC @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social

Maybe hint that the NYT ought to, you know, actually make this front-page news for a change.

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by ICE in Everett and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia.
A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

Actually, I think Kimmel *should* consider going into politics!

(Everything other than his underestimation of Miller has been pretty damn good since his return. If, as I suspect, he again gets pushed off the air before too long, he'll have exactly the Streisand Effect he needs.)

guilty of what they claim, *but* that the admin can punish them with impunity regardless.
They want to spread the idea that they can and will harm innocents and there's nothing we can do about it—ergo, Ngo might be wrong, but it doesn't matter.
That, I think, is what Kimmel should be pointing out.
lovewinzalways.bsky.social
tell a transparently fake story connecting them to terrorism, and it won't matter whether 75% of the people know it's bunk: SCOTUS (perhaps under duress) has their backs, and that's all they need. In fact, the admin would probably rather most people be *fully aware* that their targets *aren't* >
lovewinzalways.bsky.social
I agree that they're failing to make the case that antifa is what they say it is.

But—I think the likes of Ngo want a reality in which it doesn't matter whether they can make the case or not; they want to be able to grab and disappear, say, Tom Hanks or Ms. Rachel (Rachel Griffin Accurso), >

spent the segment laughing at the fact that Miller froze when confronted about it. One could be forgiven for coming away from the Kimmel segment with the idea that Miller is a dimwit who poses no real threat.
We have to do more to show how serious and actively dangerous these young rightwing >

Several days ago, for comparison, Jimmy Kimmel ran the clip of Stephen Miller describing Trump's "plenary authority," absolute-monarch powers that Trump and Miller should not legally possess.
Instead of explaining what plenary authority actually is and why it's dangerous, Kimmel basically >

The problem is—by mocking Ngo as silly, we're implying he's incompetent. Instead, this N*zi-linked incel is an honorary cabinet member, using our presidency and DHS as his predatory tools. Our strategy needs to involve forcing the media to confront that, not let them assume Ngo is a harmless ditz.

It's hard to help Americans left behind because so much of US identity is rooted in individualism. The average American conservative holds all three positions at once:

— Virtue signals about supporting US manufacturing
— Against raising the minimum wage
— Buys foreign imports because they're cheap
HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "I'm willing to pay more for quality products if they are made in America, by Americans, who are paid a decent income." The tweet shows Norman Rockwell's "Freedom of Speech" painting, which is often used to show the tweeter is expressing a brave opinion. HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "MINIMUM WAGE JOBS WERE NOT MEANT TO BE A CAREER. Why does no one understand this? Entry level jobs are STEPPING STONES to better jobs. No one wants to work towards that though." HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "Buy $5 gloves instead of $50 ones. Trust me." The tweet shows a box of "Gorilla Grip" gloves. The label on Gorilla Grip gloves show they're made in China.

All Jewish groups should join together to denounce this.
Tweet from Congressman Randy Fine: "Muslims calling for the destruction of Israel — after the peace deal.

It was never about Gaza.

Why did the UK allow these demons in?

We must ban Sharia in the United States and deport them ALL before this becomes us.

Religion of peace."

Unfortunately (disastrously), one could apply what you've written here either to Trump *or* to Schumer's control of the Dems. He's ruling like he knows he's right and the rest of the Dems are wrong, yet while most Dems don't agree, they're afraid to clash with him.

The recent trajectory, in broad strokes:

- Regime starts militarizing the conflict in early summer
- Regime declares all liberal/leftwing political activity as domestic terrorist or terrorism-adjacent in presidential memo
- Regime ramps up the propaganda against “the Left” across all channels
thomaszimmer.bsky.social
The regime gets more deranged every day. A rightwing conspiracy theorist assassinated a Democratic lawmaker - which the attorney general presents as an example of leftwing political violence in order to justify an authoritarian crackdown on the opposition…

We’re in incredibly dangerous territory.

New, from me:
Trump's 3 step plan to create a military omniforce
1. Purge - those deemed disloyal
2. Merge - different parts of law enforcement/military
3. Surge - impose the omniforce on Dem cities; instigate unrest; assert dominance; silence dissent

And this is why centrist Schumer types who think Republicans are motivated by greed can't fight them right. For while Trump and Kushner are motivated by greed, the rest of the New Right are motivated primarily by being assholes with impunity, and will forfeit money on principle to get there.

From part of a thread about this—I couldn't help but think of it. There is an absolute desire to use force to push cringe on people who don't want it, both as lowkey torture and a cheap laugh.
lovewinzalways.bsky.social
Another masterful study of men like this, though again missing the connection to shock-humor cartoons and Family Guy in particular.
The ability to force cringe on others—especially women and minorities—has become, in many ways, the value felt most passionately by a stunning number of people.

a key thing about vought — and all of these guys — is that they have a totally top down and hierarchical vision of the world. they believe that the cultural changes they hate can be turned off by destroying the federal government because they can’t imagine that they emerged bottom-up in society
thomaszimmer.bsky.social
What he’s railing against is a profound shift in culture, status… He’s obsessed with the idea that America is controlled by a leftist “ruling elite” - but “elite” isn’t defined socio-economically or by political power, it means something like: Getting to define “real America” and who gets to belong.
