The US government is at war with the American people.

To be clear:

LA County has declared a state of emergency BECAUSE OF the federal government.

The Feds, LA County is (correctly) saying, have CAUSED the emergency.

This is a striking political moment of internal collapse. Local govts feeling compelled to protect their ppl from … their own govt.

I am the consummate car guy. I dedicated my life to creating and adoring them. But I have also learned that life is better when you don’t need one. I’d rather take the bike and/or the train and I love living in a walkable city. It’s not about “taking away your car”, it’s about giving you a choice.

You can be a “car guy” and not like car dependency. You can be a “car guy” and get that too many cars in cities is bad for everyone, including drivers. You can be a “car guy” and be tired of lies & manipulations like “the war on cars.” You can be a “car guy” and know more choice means more freedom.

Residential schools denialism has consequences.

The deplorable LS shamelessly uses her pregnancy and young children to elicit sympathy while denying the harms that Indigenous children experienced.

"More to come" suggests that she's currently strategizing about how to turn this into a grift.

Update: Lindsay Shepherd says the B.C. Conservatives have fired her.
An X post that reads: Today, BC Conservative Leader John Rustad fired me from my position as Comms Officer with the Conservative Party of BC Caucus. It was because of this tweet.

I am a mother of two young children, and I am 32 weeks pregnant -- I was about to go on maternity leave.

More to come.

I’m heartened by the fact that even high ranking military officials including the hawkish ones don’t appear to like Trump or Cringey Pete

My 5th year BEd students were talking about learning resources for teaching about Residential Schools and one student brought up Gord Downie and the Chanie Wenjack resources. I was amazed that only one student knew about Gord Downie or the Tragically Hip.

I'm officially old.

In her interminable quest for attention, Lindsay Shepherd continues to be a blight on Canadian society and espouse vile, malicious views, in this case residential schools denialism. She should be fired. Free speech does not equal speech without consequences.

Nice to see the Americans getting absolutely smoked by the Europeans in the #RyderCup.

American exceptionalism indeed. Exceptionally terrible performance.

imagine relying on AI to write your bio and then having the nerve to say you're witty and full of personality
Anderson felt her bio was authentically her even if it was written by a chatbot. “My bio is 100 percent in alignment with my true personality,” she told me. “I don’t have a filter. I’m very witty. I’m full of personality.” Nor did she think using ChatGPT reflected the “bare minimum energy” she loathed. “It took me an hour and change to drill down my bio to be that good,” she explained. “I had to edit it, edit it, edit it down. I have to keep talking to it.” On the other hand, she admits that ChatGPT has sapped her motivation to write a first draft of anything herself, even though she minored in writing in college and described herself as a “wordsmith.” “I’m gonna be honest with you: Once you use ChatGPT, you don’t want to think for yourself anymore,” she said.

The claim that historians have retreated from political and diplomatic history and write jargon-laden texts that are inaccessible and unreadable is as old as it is tired.

Maybe focus on the historical reasons why the discipline of history is in steep decline at universities.

History educators have also increasingly focused on the dispositions or habits of mind that teaching and learning history can nurture and foster. Curiosity, tolerance of ambiguity, fairmindedness, etc....

Contingency is also a concept related to cause and consequence that history educators also regularly discuss.
