Excited to find drawings of moths by FW Frohawk (1861-1946) in the archive of biologist William Bateson @theul.bsky.social.

They’re catalogued as ‘27 drawings of Milan Leps’, but think this should be ‘Melan[istic] Leps’? Do they look right for showing melanism, #TeamMoth? MS Add. 8634/J.3 #EntHist
Montage showing coloured illustrations of moths and the envelope in which they’re kept. There is blue handwriting on the envelope, which might read: ‘Frohawk’s drawings [o]f Melan[istic] Leps’.

« Le fascisme ne se lève pas comme la tempête en une nuit. Il est d’abord rampant, dissimulé, ordinaire. Il progresse par les voix de la haine, avivée par les difficultés économiques. Il s’empare des cœurs avant de pervertir les esprits puis de prendre le pouvoir. »

This, 100%. And when one finds themselves chair of an examining board, they have to enforce such systems, even when they know (and have experienced) others that are slightly fairer.

Cup Interior tondo composition: A small nude boy is fishing as he crouches on a rocky ledge. He holds a woven bag in his left hand, and has a fish on the line. There is also a trap, shown under water, probably for the octopus hiding behind the rock. Above are the Greek letters: "P" "A" "S".

It was a very successful industry. Fees were not introduced that long ago. People like me moved to the UK because of its great UK HE system when there were no fees and great autonomy for academics. Most academics are against fees.
